Confirmed: Motorola ATRIX 4G launches on February 22nd

mobile

Following our report from earlier this morning suggesting the Motorola ATRIX 4G would become available on February 22nd, AT&T has reached out to clarify launch details surrounding the anticipated device. Motorola’s ATRIX 4G will indeed launch on February 22nd in AT&T stores across the country for $199.99. Pre-sales of the Motorola ATRIX 4G began earlier this week on February 13th, and customers who pre-ordered the phone for home delivery will see their orders ship on February 21st. Customers who pre-ordered their phones and opted to have them shipped to a local AT&T store will be able to pick them up on February 21st, one day ahead of general availability. The Motorola ATRIX 4G, which BGR reviewed earlier this month, features a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, a 4-inch qHD touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM and version 2.2 of Google’s Android operating system.

Wow, and the Thunderbolt, with wimpier specs will be $50 more…hope selling your soul to the fruit was worth it, Verizon.

Have fun with your “3G” plus speed phone :)

Have fun living under a bridge :)

as opposed to the “LTE” on verizon…. which, by the way, is still not real 4G

      • Anonymous

Actually they changed it again, and LTE does qualify as 4G. Not picking a fight just letting you know.

Really VZW has 3g? When? I didnt get the memo, and i couldn’t tell from those pitiful speeds i see on my girls Droid X. Hopefully their LTE will be able to compare with “our” 3G+ on AT&T.

Also i would like to add this, when did what VZW has to offer become “4G” officially? Last i checked no one had true “4g,” their LTE were capable in the future of “4G” speeds, just like…wait for it…AT&T and TMO…wow and AT&T will have LTE as well as HSPA+, thats just icing on the cake. Until i have LTE ill be happy with my HSPA+. Enjoy ur outdated phone, last i checked 2 cores are better than 1.

Actually, the ITU (who defines the 4G standard) announced on Dec 6, 2010 that the “term, while undefined, may also be applied to the forerunners of these technologies, LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed.”, which would also apply to HSPA+. In other words … all the providors whined and had a temper-tantrum, so the definition was broadenned to make them happy – so what they call 4G can now officially be applied to LTE, WiMax, and HSPA+.

        @DBEvans
I know…i was saying all of them are “4G” i was basically telling him that he was wrong. U basically said what i said, i didnt mention WiMax because we weren’t talking about that technology…the argument was HSPA+ and LTE.

      • Verizon sucks

Goodluck with your dial up speeds. I guess you could use wifi! Oh wait you can’t cause Verizon charges for that! Let’s see here, slowest data speeds, charge for everything, no more early upgrades, higher priced phones, can’t do voice and data together, sending a letter would be quicker! I guess having one or two less dropped calls is cool! Buy hey, calling is why everyone buys a smartphone!!! Wow I just convinced myself to switch!

      • DBEvans

The Thunderbolt can officially do simultaneous over LTE 4G (LTE has its origins in GSM technology), and the T-bolt has been reported as being able to do the same over Verizon’s CDMA network – although leaked docs show VZW saying not to use it as a marketing point. Lots of speculation on why not, but haven’t seen anything official.

LTE speeds are notably faster than HSPA+ and WiMax; but VZW’s 4G is still early, with limited coverage area for now. Where you can’t get it, you drop back to their CDMA speeds.

    • Sean76

I agree…vzw made a deal with the Devil, and they’re awesome network will suffer because people are not going to pay those insane prices. Not to mention doing away with early upgrades was just pure stupid.

They did say ending of February, so i was quite upset to hear about March 6th…now im happy to hear the ending of Feb again…i wonder how much will this bad boy be going for on wirefly or letstalk?

“i wonder how much will this bad boy be going for on wirefly or letstalk? ”

      That’s the only reason I haven’t pre-ordered this yet.

      • Scott

I was able to Pre-order it for $150, so I’m not complaining. That’s pretty cheap

  • Anonymous

Glad they’re going with the “or earlier” launch.

  • Enmanuelcruz1

how can i opt to get it shipped to my local store?

    • Anonymous

Go to the store and instruct them that u want it delivered there instead of your home…that is unless u have already pre-ordered

  • Spdr-Mn

I’m pre-ordering just as soon as I sell my PSP3000…

  • http://twitter.com/mbcls ask me

    TOO LATE MOTO!
wait, it should read moto is stupid!
why makes the phone only 4 inches??
once you tried htc inspire with HUGE 4.3″ screen, why would you settle for anything less than 4.3″?

    • Osarolj

Because the specs arent even close

    • Anonymous

4.3 Is just way to big for a phone 4.3 is a small tablet, thank goodness its 4″ any bigger then there would be no phone announced so far that I want.

  • Anonymous

I heard from some confidential sources that the sales are very slow. Probably selling just 1 phone per day and it includes some key high foot traffic stores. So it’s an utter failure. Did not meet Motorola’s or AT&T’s sales expectations.

    • info

Wait, are you talking about slow sales on a phone that isn’t released yet?

  • Tedkord

Of course, with this coming out end of February, that means only 4-6 more months until the very similar Bionic comes out on Verizon! Big Red, where I can always get the latest, greatest phone that other carriers had 2 quarters ago.

  • Scott

So I’m getting Jewed a day because I chose at home delivery? Gay! But oh well, I suppose I can wait :)

    • Melinda59

      Jewed?

  • http://twitter.com/FrankJL9 Frank lopez

Those 4 buttons are placed horribly. You cant hold the phone horizontally without accidently hitting one button.

Also. I am waiting until I see chromeOS baked in. Now that would make it sick… The current nettop looks horribly slow.

    “THE BEAST LIVES!!”

PS The docs are kewl and all but its all about the phone hardware.
On Feb 22nd this will be the most powerful phone on the market, PERIOD!

  • Funky Monk

Why are Atrix’s 4G network speeds so slow on all of the online reviews?

    • Tim242

      “4G” 14.4 hspa+ only in 9 markets.

  • Tim242

Zach deleted my posts because I pointed out Att’s lies. Nice job Zach. They still suck.

  • Tim242

Why do you keep deleting it Zach? Does it make your butt hurt?

    • Scott

You posted the same thing on Engadget more then once and here as well. Give it a rest already. If you don’t like AT&T go else where, otherwise STFU!

      • Tim242

It doesn’t matter whether I like them, or not. Their lies need to be
        exposed.

      • Scott

What lies? Can you not read? Nearly 100% of the 3G network has HSPA+ turned on, HOWEVER, if they have not finished the expanded backhaul, you won’t see 4G speeds. Is that really that hard to comprehend?

      • Tim242

That is not what it says. Go to att dot com slash network. It plainly states
that you get 4G speeds on “virtually 100%” of their broadband (3G) network.
Now, hover your mouse over the map to discover the nine markets. Blatant
        lie. Blatant false advertisement.

      • Scott

        @dumbass Tim242

“*4G speeds require a 4G device and are delivered when HSPA+ technology is combined with enhanced backhaul.
4G speeds will be available in limited areas with availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment.”

It’s right there on the page!

      • Tim242

Yes, meaning more than the nine markets. You shouldn’t advertise what you
        can’t deliver!

      • Scott

It also says this right by the map:

        4G Evolution
AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100% of our nation’s fastest mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul. We are rapidly expanding enhanced backhaul to cell sites throughout the country, adding new cell sites weekly.

How hard is it to read? Go back to yours moms basement

      • Tim242

You are missing the point. They are advertising 4G speeds on their whole
damn network. 9 markets in 6 months is anything, but rapid. Att doesn’t
rapidly do anything. Without the backhaul, it is nothing. Verizon already
has hundreds of cities blanketed with Lte, in 39 markets. Another 60 being
switched on soon, 178 markets by year’s end. It covers 120 million subs
already, which is 37% of the population. Will cover 50% by May, 66% by
year’s end. That’s how you do it!

  • Scion93247

im curious as to how this phone sound quality will be. it seems all the manafactures have not been investing into the speakers of a phone. most now seem to only include one speaker…. blackberry bold and motorola q have amazing speakers!!! its difficult to find a phone with good sound quality speakers :(
