AT&T’s Samsung Captivate finally gets Android 2.2 Froyo update [updated]

mobile

If there are any Samsung Captivate owners out there who haven’t yet thrown their devices out a window due to frustration, today is your lucky day. Samsung has finally made an Android 2.2 Froyo update available for AT&T’s Galaxy S phone despite the fact that three new versions of Android have been unveiled since Google first took the wraps off Froyo last year. As long as AT&T and Samsung took to make this update available, we’re expecting a rock solid build free of any major bugs — anything less would be just plain sad at this point. Captivate owners can hit the read link below to begin the update process.

UPDATE: In a cruel twist of fate, it looks like Samsung pulled the update. Captivate owners, you may now feel free to smash your phones on the ground out of frustration (don’t really do that).

Thanks, Alex

God I hate Samsung. They build shitty products, release them knowing full well there’s a bug, then never fix them. I returned my Captivate after 27 frustrating days, left AT&T over that phone. I have an EVO and love it every day of my life.
Give me HTC! Love that company. I’ve had 3 phones from them in 5 years. The original phone, the 3125, my husband is still using. Sold my Fuze for $85 on eBay last November. Not bad.

Ihave froyo 2.2 on my Captivate. Blew away the stock OS and installed Cognition 3.02 ROM. Wow. Pure Google Froyo. No AT&T or Samsung bloatware. GPS locks in less than 10 seconds. Battery life is measured in days, not hours (unless playing Angry Birds ;-) . And best of all, my phone used to randomly reboot itself or shut down at least once a day (July 2010 manufacture date, got my phone last August). It has not done this AT ALL! Up for over 345 hours! It amazes me that a lone developer working from home on his PC can write better code than Samsung’s army of developers. Samsung hardware is OK, but their software is abysmal

it will hurt at&t market now now on. Why would someone buy at&t samsung captivate 2.1 when u have options like T-mobile ( update to 2.2 + nexus 2.3 gingerbird ) and then Verizon ( I-phone).
at&t will hv to loose otherwise.
