MacBook Pro refresh possibly leaked in new Intel ad

Rumor

Pink might be the new black, but black is the new silver — at least, if Intel’s ad containing what appears to be a previously unseen refreshed MacBook Pro model ends up being accurate. 9 to 5 Mac drew attention to the ad this morning, which depicts a slim black MacBook Pro unlike anything currently available from Apple. The ad is for Intel’s new Core i5 processor, and this isn’t the first time Intel has let details of an unreleased Mac slip in one of its advertisements — the chip giant also ran ads discussing an unreleased MacBook Pro with a Core i5 processor in late January. Apple is expected to begin shipping new versions of its MacBook Pro laptop computer line in early March, though the company has not yet made any announcement regarding the refreshed models.

Thats not a macbook though, thats just some random black photoshop shapes..
The lack of DVD drive is notable though

At this time it is fine to drop the DVD drive. Way back when the original MBA was released people still used them. Now they are unused. My new Tablet PC doesn’t have an optical drive and I don’t miss it at all. I might buy a $20 external one to keep in case I ever need to take it anywhere, but I doubt I’ll have to use it.

Just waiting for these to come out FOREVER now! Lets hope they threw some Retina displays on those puppies too! (I know, not likely) =/

have you ever thought that’s just a generic laptop?

    Didn’t they do this before?

TUAW has a nice write up why this probably isn’t the next MBP.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brettmlewis Brett Lewis

Yeah. Looks like a pretty generic laptop with some generic video editing screen shots. Is that some osx program or something? Otherwise, I see no reason to believe this is a macbook.

if that’s how it’s going to look like, all i can say is f**king precious!!!!

  • tl:dr;

    BGR fail.

    From 9 to 5′s website….

“We’re not saying these are the new MacBook Pros, we’re just saying we like this design. Intel would never leak an upcoming MacBook Pro in their advertising anyway.”

You ARE joking right? I’m assuming you knew that was pure sarcasm coming from 9 to 5. Please tell me you knew that. Otherwise, your comment (Not BGR’s post) has FAIL written all over it.

there is nothing in this ad that hints that this is a macbook. looks like just a generic photoshopped laptop to me.

      your an idiot.
      - It has the green / red / yellow buttons on top left
      - It has the glare on the top right of the screen every macbook is pictured with
      - It is in the position 99% of macbook pros are positioned in
      - They did this last year and don’t care what apple has to say about leaking stuff

OMG, that’s UUUUUGGGGGLLLLLYYYY! Typical Apple. Us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) seem to know what the rest of the world doesn’t. Apple simply doesn’t know how to design products that are appealing to the eyes and obviously we know also none of them work!

    • WTF

Your backdoor approach is both lame and annoyIng.
It’s people like you that make people that like apples products look like idiots. (see I can do it too)

then tell me why HP tried to copy the EXACT design with the Envy series? Come on don’t be dumb, MacBook Pros are the highest to the average consumer, if you are looking for the best laptop in the world (and are an average consumer) you will get a MacBook or MacBook Pro. A more informer person might pick up a Sony VAIO or like me just want a better OS and get a MacBook. Nobody cares how you personally feel about this, 99% of people will like this design.

i hope this refresh includes mac minis

Apple will never abandon its famous aluminum design for Macbook Pro laptops

  • Abc

lol, seriouly core i5, get with the program we are at core i7

    • KCRic

Typical Apple. If it were real, it would cost $4K also – even though you can get a laptop with an i7 right now for less than half that. But hey, non optical drive – that’s a plus. I mean who has a need for permanent storage or DVD/Blu Ray movies right? It’s not like anything comes on CD’s anymore these days.

Don’t know about you, but the video editing program screen shot on the right looks a lot like Final Cut Pro.

  • Charles

Agreed with the other commenters. This just looks like a normal laptop with some OS X like interface pasted on. Still looks kind of strange for OS X, but I haven’t used a lot of the video editing software. Wouldn’t be the first, or tenth time marketing has put a OS X screen on a windows machine. BGR fail on this.

If I want a thin black laptop that is professional looking, I’d get the real thing and get a Thinkpad T410s/420s.

  • QNX Please

Seriously BGR, just change your name to Apple Report. No actual Apple news to keep your iBoner up, so you keep speculating worse than a cheap tabloid.

    • KCRic

We were fooled. This is a tabloid (tech tabloid) and we’re all in the walmart checkout line – have been for a while now it seems.

  • Guyute

Why is i5 news when you can get a Macbook Pro with an i7 already? When you consider this story and and the HTC “revolver” scam they fell for today I can’t help but feel that Zach Epstein and BGR have done irreparable harm to their credibility. A sad day for a once proud website.

    • :P

because this is an add for the SECOND GENERATION (as stated at the top of the ad) of the i5 processors.

Liquid Metal patents being put to use?

  • http://twitter.com/kabkoub kabkoub

It does make sense though since OS X Lion is going to be released.

I mean they kept the same hardware for the same animal, Leopard and Snow Leopard but this is a Lion.

    What do you think?

I hope Apple is waiting for Intel to fix Sandybridge chip sets (I am affected) before releasing these laptops. 2nd Generation Core i5 means Sandybridge which means 6 series chipset.

Nice try, blogging about a random stock photo or laptop shape as a the next Macbook Pro.

      exactly

  • Skyler

Beautiful. I hope it is this as I am looking to buy a MBP for collage soon :)
