Exclusive: Verizon iPhone sales fail to meet expectations

Exclusive

One of our Apple sources has shared some very sensitive information on first-week Verizon iPhone launch sales with us. It’s quite interesting — we’re being told sales are performing a little under what Apple and Verizon anticipated, and we have the data to show it. Below are unit sales totals from five Apple stores combined (including two very, very prominent Apple stores) showing both Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 sales during the Verizon iPhone’s first five days of availability:

  • Thursday: Verizon = 909, AT&T = 539
  • Friday: Verizon = 916, AT&T = 680
  • Saturday: Verizon = 660, AT&T = 471
  • Sunday: Verizon = 796, AT&T = 701
  • Monday: Verizon = 711, AT&T = 618

Additionally, we have been told that online pre-orders between Verizon and Apple amounted to around 550,000 units. We also have some statistics on who’s buying Verizon iPhones to share with you: 30% of people buying Verizon iPhones were Android users, just over 25% of people buying iPhone 4 were BlackBerry users, and only 14% of people buying the Verizon iPhone were AT&T iPhone owners. The remaining percent didn’t want to say, didn’t have a smartphone, or didn’t have a phone prior to making their iPhone 4 purchases last week.

Thanks, Lindsey S.!

Yes, its obvious that most people interested in the Iphone on Verizon would rather wait for the Iphone5 which should be out 4 months. I would do the same.

i was going to do the 2 year contract with Verizon and get the iPhone 4. i can’t part with my Nexus S though. it has a better loudspeaker, faster CPU, better and bigger screen, etc etc! the iPhone 4 just has better games, which need to come over to Android ASAP!!

maybe people have finally figured out they’re being shammed. the iphone technology has been the same since 2007 so its already outdated. yet every “new” version of the iphone looks and acts exactly like the original one. not to mention it looks exactly like a crappy ipod touch. wow, thats def worth full price. if you are a moron. we can only hope people come to their senses and stop buying phones just for their shitty logo.

It is Quite Interesting, There are some reasons in my opinion that why Apple and Version is not able to boost the sales of iPhone 4, At&t strong coverage might be one reason but the announcement of next generation of iPhone is one of the bigger reason in my opinion.. People are waiting for iPhone 5 rather then purchasing the currently offered iPhone..

I’m thinking we are feeling the full power of the Droids.

The Verizon iPhone wasn’t the droid we were looking for.

The answer is ridiculously simple. Who in their right mind would buy an iPhone 4 when WE KNOW for certain that an iPhone 5 is due in June! Really!!! Wait until all the droid folks have their 2 year commitment end then we’ll see what happens. I suspect we’ll see lotsa people buying in June.

Why anyone should be surprise? Other carriers including AT&T have a early cancellation policies in place (why pay about $300 to cancel a contract & go spend about the same at Verizon to get the iPhone? Not smart in this economy). Second, current Verizon customers under contract not eligible (not even an early upgrade) for the upgrade (I’m due for upgrade in March but Verizon won’t let me upgrade until then). Third, the iPhone is 3 year old device and not so Hip & cool like it was when it was first released in 2007. Now they’ve to compete against the Google Android devices on the market. This is OK new for Verizon since they’ve gave a lot of money to manufacturers (Motorola, HTC, etc …) to develop those highly rated Android phone.

  • I’llwait…

Are the number for all iPhones? I’m sure the fact that AT&T is offering the iPhone 3GS for $49 adds to why they have good numbers over the last few weeks.

    Yea, No shit….

Let’s see…who is the moron at Verizon to Lets carry LAST YEARS MODEL PHONE. Take a GSM iPhone, rip the GSM radio out, put a CDMA radio in and hack the software to support your network. Then get tons of people to sign a 2 year contract on a phone that will be outdated in 6 months..

Nice Phuck’n (ph=f) way to keep customers happy
