Motorola confirms dedication to Android, says Windows Phone 7 lacks features

mobile

Windows Phone 7 fans hoping they might see Microsoft’s reinvigorated mobile OS on Motorola hardware in the near future will be disappointed to learn that this particular marriage isn’t in the cards. Speaking to the press during Mobile World Congress on Tuesday, Motorola’s corporate vice president of software and services product management Christy Wyatt said the cell phone maker is sticking with Android for now. “I don’t envision us using Microsoft. I would never say never but it’s not something we’re entertaining now,” Wyatt told IDG News Service. “We would like an opportunity to create unique value and we don’t feel we could with a closed platform.” Motorola did consider the Windows Phone 7 OS at one time, however it found Microsoft’s timeline to be less than satisfactory in terms of adding features Motorola viewed as key. “There were a bunch of things that we believed about Microsoft that ended up not being true, mostly about what functionality it would have in what period of time,” Wyatt said. Like Microsoft, Motorola recently reinvented itself in the mobile space, finding success with Android after the company fell on hard times not long ago. Motorola plans to stick with what works for the time being, however, and Microsoft will just have to look to the world’s No. 1 cell phone company for solace.

Motorola also ‘lacks features’; this DROID X SUCKS BIG TIME!!!
    Waiting on ThunderBolt¡₣!

    • Petas

Papi you are obviously clueless, the droid x hardware is amazing, even if the software is poor.

      • Anonymous

and its that software that makes his phone suck. ltr

      • Anonymous

The software DOES not suck. It’s running the DROID OS so it’s top tier.

      • numetheus

That is his opinion. He could call you clueless for calling it amazing. I have no opinion of the DROID either way, but saying someone is clueless for having an opinion that differs from your own makes your a douche.

I will disagree with you on the “droid x hardware is amazing”. I work with two people who have DroidX units, and my sister in law has the Droid X. feature for feature my little MyTouchHD out preforms them day in and day out. I even had one of them ask me “man why is your phone so much faster than mine, i was told this was the baddest phone on the market but yours makes mine look silly”…. they are nice phones, and they “feel better” being made of metal. but when it comes to the insides they are slower than my grandma, and she doesn’t have any legs.

again. learn to root you n00b. If you can’t handle the “complex” world of android software (like my 6 year old cousins can) please go by an iPhone and stfu.

Exactly. People expecting to buy something and have it work correctly are insane. I bought my DROID X and DROID INCREDIBLE expecting to put in a lot of work. And it’s been great. Not a day goes by where I dont have to figure out why some key feature is crashing.

To Norm_4G_LTE and all the other MotoLovingPanzies:

I bought The EVOOOO on June 4th, had it for 5 months, and did not have to do a DAMN thing to it.
Since, I decided to stay with BIG RED to hold onto my grandfathered data only plan (which all of you would envy) and because Sprint´s Customer Call Centers are outsourced to countries where they do not understand or speak the English language, the DROID (CRAPPY) X was the closest thing to the EVOOOO; at least in size because, the Incredible was my first choice. Does not matter, I bought the stupid thing out-of-pocket (REALLY CHEAP) so, I still have my upgrade for the ThunderBolt¡₣!
As soon as I get it, that CRAPPY X is so “Craigslist”!!

Good to see you back in full swing keeping us phandroids in check. It was getting a little too one sided around here with you gone.
As an aside even though my Droid 1 was amazing I hate moto for biting the hand that feeds it. HTC only now.

I don’t get it…was that sarcasm? Because only an idiot would ACTUALLY buy a product that they didn’t know how to use, or at least do some hands-on research to see if it worked well for them. It’s people like you that make consumers look like idiotic pawns: “I bought this product and I don’t understand it, it must be bad!”

Go hug your iPhone and stop whining.

      you must not have one

  • adizzle

Obviously it lacks features. Its less than a year old. Even though many people feel that they needed to come out of the gate with all the features iOS and Android have, I don’t think it was realistic. Microsoft has no one to blame but themselves for now being an underdog but I think they’ve done a pretty good job so far. Motorola can stick with Android for now and see how WP7 evolves over the next year and reevaluate.

I don’t understand why there is so much fanaticism on message boards for iOS vs. Android vs. RIM vs. WP7. As long as these companies keep innovating and competing, we, the consumers, are all going to benefit on our preferred choice of platform.

Because some users of some platforms always like to label users of other platforms to be “sheeps”, “dumb”, etc.

“Motorola can stick with Android for now and see how WP7 evolves over the next year and reevaluate.”

What makes you think Microsoft will have anything to do with Motorola in the future? Besides, nobody is going to miss Motorola. Their phones suck, and have for a while now.

  • Steve

can i ask why you guys never have videos with your “hands on” – it is pretty much pointless with just pics

I guess I just took Moto’s comments to say “we can’t put Motoblur on it.”

    • twest

I agree. I also like the statement: “There were a bunch of things that we believed about Microsoft that ended up not being true, mostly about what functionality it would have in what period of time,”….I find this really ironic since I know a few Cliq owners who were promised updates to the OS for quite awhile and got it after a very long time or were told basically ..we changed our mind and decided not to update that device….sorry, but you are stuck with an old OS.

  • Pj33322

Yea because they can’t skin the hell out of it that’s why.

  • http://www.youtube.com/jeromeo1980 Jeromeo

Remember, Microsoft royally screwed handset maker, Sendo. Sendo was later acquired by Motorola.

Motorola tries to differentiate from Nokia!

Moto likes staying warm in wintertime even if it means pissing themselves plus MS won’t let Moto put their Blur crap on their phones

  • Browm1snoopy

Balmer’s got to be freakin out.

  • http://twitter.com/gnomehole The Gnome

Motorola will probably change their tune as Android growth stagnates… but WP7 won’t help them much, plus they wouldn’t be able to pollute it with crappy apps you can’t remove.

“We would like an opportunity to create unique value and we don’t feel we could with a closed platform.”

This coming from the company that locks bootloaders and listens to AT&T to gimp their Flagship phone. Unique value…value to who? Moto? Closed platform…closed to who? Moto?

rule number 1: don’t make what people don’t want to buy

  • Drew

Ohhhh, Motorola seems to be choosing sides. Thanks for the commitment chief, now how about you update some devices and shut your lip about who lacks features…

  • http://twitter.com/gallo001 Angel V.

Good, that means no motoblur shit on WP7, do us all a favor and stay with android.

  • Bullyboyb

Microsoft is suing the hell out of the them anyways, no one expected you to be wp7. Let m$ finish the IP infringement issue and discuss everything later.(after they are bankrupt).

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4KRCOQPRS3FNRWHRCHSI5G4EME Vinny Amador

Oh the Irony – Did he really just say “We would like an opportunity to create unique value and we don’t feel we could with a closed platform.”

Riiiiiiiight….. this from a company that encrypts and locks down its bootloaders to prevent people from loading custom updated os roms. If that isn’t closed platform, then kindly explain to me what he would consider Closed. Of course, don’t get me started on blur locking down the choices and system. Open ??? This guy wouldn’t know open source if it bit him on the butt.

  • Chut Pata

Apparently Moto ain’t moron like Nokia

forgot how fugly the DROID was.
