HTC’s Facebook phones are AT&T-bound

mobile

HTC announced two new smartphones at Mobile World Congress on Tuesday that are equipped with dedicated Facebook buttons. The HTC Chacha and HTC Salsa are each Android-based smartphones that are the cell phone maker’s first offerings to feature its new enhanced Facebook experience. To the chagrin of countless Facebook addicts across the country, however, HTC made no mention of U.S. carrier partners when it announced the devices this morning. Fortunately, AT&T has reportedly confirmed that it will carry two Facebook phones from HTC, though it did not say specifically that they would be the Chacha and Salsa. The carrier did confirm that they will feature similar capabilities along with the same context-aware Facebook buttons, however. “In the U.S., AT&T and HTC are exclusively bringing this unique user experience to the market later this year,” an AT&T spokesperson told Mobilized. “It goes without saying this is part of our commitment to have the industry’s best Android portfolio this year.”

Lets take a Blackberry like device and make it worse, who would have thought that was doable

Screw a smartphone that has applications tied to icons on it – why not just make every app a dedicated hardware button?

I’m going to call it right now… DOA.

This is not something I’ll purchase but I bet this will be huge. Especially if this ends up being like that sim card with FB built into it so that people can access their accounts without using their data plans. It would be perfect for the tween market and their parents. They get their facebook along with a cool phone, parents get lower phone bills because no extras for data.
I’m not saying this is what this is but I bet there is something to this if att wants an exclusive deal with it. Say what you want about att but their exclusive deals have proven some very successful results

This will be great for the revolutions in the Middle East!! Did they say whether, or not, is was another “wi-fi only” feature?

At least the teens on AT&T network can get this instead of the Iphone

  • VZWsuckz!

WOW! I cannot believe all you AT&T haters! I bet the majority of you have never had AT&T and always talk crap… Verizon can kiss my ass! Customer service sucks balls and rate plans are non attractive an high. All you corn fed country folks can kiss my ass and keep your high VZ plans while I pay less and roam anywhere with good service in Metro areas and out side of LA to the burbs!
*Oh by the way! If AT&T was such a crappy company and service provider than why are they still the largest carrier than VZ? And still growing with new churned customers…. Losers!

I assume you are referring to AT&T’s 1.4m lead over Verizon when they include all their mobile broadband users…. If VZW did the same thing they would actually take a significant lead… just saying. And I think name calling is not going to get you any love around here.

Is someone saying people are so lazy to browse to the Facebook program and lunch it? do we really need a dedicated button for this? Do people now live on Facebook?total waste of time!

  • Reggie

Can someone please explain to me WHY you’d want this phone? A dedicated Facebook button? Really?

Don’t be surprised if a few months after release there are reports if Facebook capturing your call logs, mobile address book, browsing history, gps location, etc., all in real time, published without your consent. And it will probably have code that blocks other social media from being installed. :)

  • chuck

Gah, can you please type ChaCha like it’s supposed to be? I keep saying “Chacha” as chah-chuh in my head instead of cha-cha. :)

So we’ve been getting rid of hardware buttons over the past few years, and now we’re adding one back?? Dislike.

  • Quailallstar

I’m really sick of all this Facebook [everything]. Am I the only one not really into Lamebook?
