Microsoft shows off Kinect, Windows Phone 7 integration [video]

Gaming

Sony Ericsson’s just-announced Xperia Play is set to bring an amazing gaming experience to Android fans around the world, but mobile gamers might want to think twice before signing those two-year contracts. In fact, we hope you’re sitting down, gaming fans, because Microsoft on Monday demonstrated some pretty impressive forthcoming Windows Phone 7 features at Mobile World Congress. The demo, which is just the tip of the iceberg, shows us what might happen when Windows Phone 7 meets Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the ever popular Kinect motion-based controller. The results, though exhausting, look pretty amazing. Hit the jump for Microsoft’s demo video and while it definitely looks awesome, don’t get too excited just yet — Microsoft notes that this is just a technology demo and gives no real indication of when we might see integration of this caliber.

I am hoping for maybe some kind of Zune integration; as cool as this looks, I still am not quite willing to switch to WP7.

That’s kinda dumb. Maybe ok for my 6 yr old niece but it’s not even educational enough for that. Hope it gets better

yea that video is creepy but it shows the goal of how integrated they want this system to be by the time windows phone 8 is out.

That’s not really integration with Kinect. That’s integration with xbox 360 (which I think rates pretty low on most people’s wishlists for smartphone capabilities anyway.. Seriously, who is really dying to use their phones as video game controller?) that happens to run a Kinect game.

This actually demonstrates a problem with Microsoft. They are so used to drawing on the success of an existing franchise, it’s like it’s the only thing they know how to do. I think their resouces are better spent on developing WP7 platform than trying to build at least some connection (even imaginary, as in “may become available in the future, or not”) between xbox and WP7.

I agree with all of that. Seriously, why would you want to use your phone as a controller? I could see maybe a tablet since the battery life is better, but using either pulls you away from the main part of the game.

It looked like those girls got bored so the blew it up so he would quit trying to be cool.

if your traveling in a wifi area you can play your xbox games without your console… thats the point. and there goal will be a completly linked system so that you can eventually control your intire entertanment center with your phone. they have a clearly marked plan and there on course sofare.

the idea is a fully linked xbox to the phone. it already has the ability to play games in your consol while your traveling.
they integrate with other platforms to improve there products without integration they cant offer anything new.
they already have three times the features of any other smart phone OS
