Apple to become Samsung’s No. 1 customer with $7.8 billion in parts purchases this year

mobile

According to an unconfirmed report originating in the Korea Economic Daily newspaper, Apple will become Samsung’s largest customer in 2011. Citing anonymous industry sources, the report states that Apple is poised to spend $7.8 billion on parts from Samsung, which is one of the largest component suppliers in the world. Apple is known to have parts contracts in place with Samsung, but this staggering sum would make the Cupertino-based company Samsung’s single largest customer this year. The report states that liquid crystal displays, mobile application processors and NAND flash memory chips are among the parts Samsung has been contracted to supply for Apple. Apple and Samsung are also rivals in the mobile space, of course, with Apple’s iPhone and iPad competing directly with Samsung’s mobile phone and tablet lines.

I know. Why would Samsung expose themselves financially by betting on a company that will be cashless in 12 months!

Why are you all saying this is stupid? It’s a lot more relevant that hearing about dumb, baseless iphone nano rumors.

I hope Apple doesn’t catch the fragmentation bug that Samsung has…

I hope that more people start to use the buzzword “fragmentation” as often as possible.

Keeping each other in business. No one should find it strange that competitors often work together in different areas.

Just goes to show it isn’t all about the hardware since they all get something from somewhere else.

        Huh?

        Exactly

  • Big Papi

So for all those people who claim they’ll never buy Sammy again, well when they buy Apple, they indirectly buy Samsung. Its no surprise though.

  • Anonymous

I hope Sammy’s getting their money upfront because Apple won’t be able to pay their bills once Android’s taken over. Unfortunately, due to heightened competition in the Android space I am not sure how much they will be able to drive in profit from their Android business.

Apple made more money than Samsung in the last quarter. You obviously do not know what you are talking about.

      • Anonymous

That’s what they are telling you. But advanced Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation Intelligence teams have already seen confirmation that Apple has in fact been losing money for the last 6 quarters due to Google’s amazing Android. So, sorry buddy, you are out of luck… And so is Apple!

You’re not sure only because you have no imagination.
