AT&T altering LaptopConnect data plans this Sunday?

Exclusive

According to a well placed source of ours, AT&T will be altering its data plan offerings for LaptopConnect devices this Sunday. Devices that utilize LaptopConnect data plans include data sticks, MiFis, and connected netbooks. Currently, AT&T offers a 200MB monthly plan for $35 or a 5GB monthly plan for $60… not all that savory. After this weekend, however, the company will bring its offerings more inline with those its cnemesis, Verizon Wireless. Ma’ Bell will begin offering a 3GB monthly data plan for $30 and a 5GB monthly plan for $50. Much more savory. We should see an announcement either Sunday or Monday. What do you think?

Wow, this is an awesome deal. I’ll sign up as long as there isn’t a 2 year contract… or else I’m gonna buy Virgin Mobile’s MiFi…

YOU MUST BE SHITTING ME AT&T!? You will make more money if you just give us our UNLIMITED DATA PACKAGES back. and you will get more consumers if you just keep it that way.

if you had unlimited with AT&T then you should still have it unless you changed your plan…i’ve had my unlimited package and free mobile to mobile for like 3 or 4 years now.

  • fred

they must be feeling the pain already from losing the iphone

  • Rudyfrederic

You can’t even wipe your ass with 200MB.

Don’t you get like 200mb or 100 don’t remember free if you buy a laptop from BB?

    • Nokoke

You can if it’s one of the no wipe/dry craps. Also if you shower right away the 200mb seems to be enough. I agree that if you have the real messsy shits, you need at least 500mb and a box of baby wipes.

Wow… now you get to pay the same price for slower speeds instead of paying through the nose for it. Verizon’s 5gb plan runs LTE.

This incarnation of a company called AT&T is not to be confused with a prior incarnation that was also referred to as “MaBell”. MaBell was in every home in America and owned all of the equipment plugged into the telephone “jacks” (actually screwed in), etc. Very different world –but “MaBell” is catchy, just don’t want this mistake to take hold.

I hope the lower the “overage rate” from $51.25/GB down to $10/GB and also offer an $80 for 10GB plan and $100 for 15GB plan. I’d upgrade in a second.

As far as Verizon –yeah, it would be nice to have the speed of their LTE network right now (10-14Mbps instead of 3-6Mbps), but it would create a lot more anxiety for me as it would be too easy to exhaust my monthly quota and start burning up overages. Also, as AT&T upgrades their back-haul, their existing HSPA+ modems (like Shockwave) should magically start to deliver 10-14Mbps –no need to screw around with first-generation LTE drivers/chipsets..

I just left AT&T laptop connect program after picking up a Verizon Palm Pre Plus on Ebay. Guess how much I pay for 5GB WiFi hotspot?

    $0

That’s right. I am saving over $720 per year.

..that’s a CDMA2000 Rev A device, so you’re only getting about 1Mbps and even at that, if you sat there and watched video on it 24×7 they’d throttle you anyway, so you’re pretty much on the bench.

      • OG Boy Genius

er, meant CDMA2000 **EVDO** Rev. A

    • yourphonesux

saving money…. but you have a palm pre lol im sorry

Hope that VZW plan is LTE. I had one about 2 years ago(EVDO re-A), the thing was chopping regular youtube video.

I pay $35 right now through Verizon for 3 GB of data for my Cr48. If they actually go through with this and allow me to get it via month-to-month means, I’m in.

  • kansas_wazzu

I might take them up on this one. I’ve had the VZ mifi device for 2 years. Love the device, but not VZs speed.

    Isn’t it better that:
$10 for first GB, then $10 for every GB?
This will punch ALL competitors down to HELL!

At&T is like that shitty girlfriend who you only stayed with because she was hot, but then got one of those nasty lip jobs that you see in porn/Hollywood.

AT&T lost the iPhone (Their only strength outside SIM cards) and now they suck again… like during the AT&T/Cingular merger.

    • Jon

Btw, I’ve used AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint (who has pretty good coverage, but, when they don’t, roam on Verizon) for many other phones, and AT&T just seems to have a problem anywhere there are multiple buildings and/or dense population. Blackberries seem to do better than iPhones, but still have a pretty lackluster performance.

      Just my experience.

Still too steep… but that’s my opinion. The demand will always be there, therefore the prices will remain high. In a perfect world, you should be talking 5 GB min plans up to 20 GB per month… yep, for the same price. It amazes me how, in this state of mobile computing, that just about everyone, no… EVERYONE offering services on the web GUSHES about all this lush content. Oh go ahead, we’ve got your favorite movies, clips, audio, video, blah blah blah… Too bad we can’t experience it the way we want to. Instead we have to walk around minding our data meters just to make sure we don’t go over and pay EVEN MORE in overage charges. Oh, I forgot… that was the plan all along.

  • Jared

I’d like a cheaper minute plan to. I have two lines on my account, thinking of dropping the second line and I use no where close to 450 minutes a month, maybe 100 at the most, since everyone i call is on AT&T free mobile to mobile. I text way more than I talk anyway.

  • Prene1

Why are we capped at 5 gigs in 2011 why not 20gigs ? This cap is bullshit. I’m still on my Sprint unlimited 3g.

  • Austiniter

AT&T better start giving up much more than just a lousy 1,000 minutes and numerous nationwide dropped calls to customers. Verizon is soon to take a huge amount of AT&T subscribers over thanks to the iPhone and AT&T’s lack of customer care and corporate responsibility. AT&T is a rip off, they defraud their consumers by not providing the levels of service that consumers are paying for then try sticking consumers who switch because of their horrific service with Early Termination Fee’s.

  • Austiniter

GOD I HOPE AT&T LOSES all their customers and goes down the toilet. AT&T has so many holes in their network, drops so many calls they should go with a new saying: AT&T TOUCH SOMEONE, RIP THEM OFF AND MAKE MORE PROFITS.

  • MiFI

    What’s their overage fees?

  • Lostboy25

Its actually gonna be $35 for 3g’s

  • Mattyfromma

it’s funny how the wireless carrier’s are slightly realizing that offering better plans for a decent price makes both sides happy, hmm customer happy they stay with us in the long run…customer not happy they leave….

let the wireless wars continue ha ha ha lol

  • Stylinexpat

I have unlimited Data connection here in Taipei, Taiwan for about $24 a month so many in the US are getting ripped off.
