More details on AT&T’s Any mobile calling plan emerge

Exclusive

AT&T will be launching its Unlimited Messaging with Mobile to Any Mobile plan tomorrow. Just ahead of the launch, BGR has acquired an internal AT&T memo that details exactly what customers will have to do to qualify for said plans. Spoiler alert: not much. Surprisingly, there isn’t any fine print with AT&T’s latest offering. Customers with individual, post-paid lines costing between $39.99 and $59.99 per month are eligible for the unlimited texting and mobile to mobile offer — individual plans over $59.99 include unlimited calling. Customers with family, post-paid lines costing between $69.99 and $109.99 per month are also eligible for the offering — family plans over $109.99 *drumroll* include unlimited calling. That’s pretty much it… no red tape. Who’s jumping on this tomorrow?

HAHA what a joke. Well, I understand the marketing gimmick. People will always like a “freebie” or something that makes them feel special.

Well, actually, there *is* fineprint and it says that “promotional plans” are ineligible, such as the Senior Plan or retention plans like the one a super cool rep bestowed upon me several years ago: 1,200 Rollover mins. + Unl. M2M (to ATT #’s only) for $29.99. I doubt any wireless carrier can ever even hope to come CLOSE to that deal.

boost shrinkage is 35 for unlimited everything, everything, everything.

I jumped on it this morning and my account is now updated successfully. They could have made it automatic for those that qualify but it was easy enough to enroll. Thanks AT&T.

Here is what I wrote on my blog:

HERE IS A PSA FOR ALL YOU ATT USERS OUT THERE. If you have UNLIMITED TEXTING, you can change your plan to and an UNLIMITED TEXTING AND UNLIMITED CALLING TO ANY MOBILE IN THE USA (Tmobile, sprint, and Verizon Cell phones) You have to manually change to this feature and it costs the same!!! $20 for individual and $30 for family plans. The best part of this is a LOWER rate plan may be eligible for this then you currently use, and if your like me then you may want to switch to it because most of your calls are to Cell phones!!

I just did it on my myWireless account just now.
Where is my easy button at?

Jumped on it, but honestly, wont make any difference for me. If yoiu drop down in plans from 1400 minutes to 700 minutes you lose A list. I should have about a billion roll over minutes though, so I guess thats a good thing.

    • Shometexan

Unless you do 1400 minutes of calling exclusively to landlines, A-list is no longer needed. I too was at the 1400 minute level so I called 611 and asked them to tell me how many minutes I averaged on the phone with a landline each month. I was shocked to hear the average for me was 121 min/a month to a landline. The guy said it was a no brainer as my high month was “nowhere close to 700 minutes (296 minutes)” & that’s on a family plan. This is actually a pretty sweet deal for most.

I just to this feature on my myWireless account just now. Just selected to change features and there it was. Clicked it and un-selected the old FT Unlimited messaging. Made it effective today and saved. Done!

Now where is my easy button at?

Does anyone know if this will work with an AT&T Unity Family plan, which I have from a few years back, I do already have unlimited family texting as well?

    • Jonmango

I seriously doubt it. My plan, even though the same as the current $39.99 450 nation plan wasn’t eligible for the feature until I changed the plan to it’s current version. I just had to change the plan online to the same cost $39.99 450 plan.

If I remember correctly Unity plans were no longer available when I got my plan last (3-4) years ago.

  • FAN discount

I have the family plan @ $69.99, but I also get a FAN discount. The new feature is not showing up as an option in OLAM. Anyone else seeing this?

    • Boyla001

      I’m not seeing it either.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L3PR5YRD4QW3IXAINEJOCA2WJI Pete Rod

      Me either…

    • Anonymous

I have a FAN discount and I was just able to add it. I have the $89.99 family plan with 1400 minutes though. But I assume they’re counting the price before FAN discount in determining eligibility. It was listed under the group features as “Family Messaging Unlimited with Mobile to Any Mobile Calling” right under the old messaging. I added it to my account and it confirmed deletion of the old one and even let me back-date it to the start of my billing cycle.

    • FAN discount

I just called Customer Care, they said it may take a while to show up on some contracts, but the discount does affect eligibilty. So I’ll wait a day or two.

      • FAN discount

Opps, sorry. Discount DOES NOT affect.

    • Jonmango

You will likely have to change your plan to the newest version, een if the cost is the same. Same thing happened to me: I hadn’t changed plans in 3-4 years an wasnt seeing the feature. So I changed to the same plan, same cost and after the change was done I could see the new feature. I also backdated the plan change to avoid any prorated usage charges. I lost some rollover minutes, but it’s bit a big deal to get the new feature.

I also get a FAN discount.

Super… not like the vast majority of people need this feature. Show of hands. How many people have never gone over their minutes and have accumulated a stupid amount of roll over minutes?

    *raises hand*

its only 5 more than sprint because you have to pay the 10 smartphone fee but with sprint you get unlimited data instead of 2gb and its easier to get corporate discounts

  • Ttownff

I hope all of you ship jumpers hurry up and go , I can’t wait for you to be gone . Enjoy your slow CDMA iPhone and I’ll enjoy my faster network with less traffic and unlimited calling plan . Don’t let the door hit ya where the sun don’t shine .

  • Shocka145

Would this work with the family plan for 700 minutes that’s 60 dollars plus 9.99 each additional line. Or does the plan have to be 69.99 itself

  • PETERMEDEK

IF THEY HAD UNLIMITED DATA IT WOULD BE AWESOME. SO VZW HERE I COME :)

I signed up with sprint a week ago for that very feature…..looks like I’ll be taking advantage of that 30 day no risk trial sprint offers. Hello SIM card, oh how I have missed you. :)

    • Yole

I have the following “FamilyTalk Nation 1400 Rollover & Unlimited Night/Weekend & Unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile Minutes” and “Messaging Unlimited for Families for $30 per month.” Does this mean i can change to the “Any mobile calling plan” for free or do i have to pay the extra “$30″ a month for this “Any mobile calling plan”? Maybe a good strategy is changing my 1400 min plan to 700 min plan especially if the “any mobile calling plan” is free to add?

  • Anonymous

In case anyone is still confused, the 550 Family Plan is not eligible for this feature, at all.

    • Jonmango

That’s right, for family plans it must be $69 – $109 (2 lines) base price.

Single line cost must be $39.99 or $59.99 base price.

Also, the plan code must be more recent than 3-4 years even if the cost is the same.

  • Atownakaatl

So I have a family plan with 2100 minutes for I think $109, can I change it to $69.99 family plan and pay extra for data to get unlimited data and unlimited phone too?

  • Jonmango

FYI – your plan must have a newer code for the new feature to show. When I say newer, it must be within the last 3 years or so.

On my wife’s line she has the $39.99 450 plan and the feature wasn’t showing online. So I changed the plan to the $39.99 450 plan, backdated to the start of the cycle and the mobile to any mobile feature was there! I had to remove her current $20 unlimited messaging plan and replace.

Net result is the same plan, new feature, and same monthly cost. The only downer is the loss of rollover minutes. She had 850 which will be adjusted to 450 at the end of the cycle. I guess not too bad considering she makes/receives most calls to/from mobiles.

    • Joe

Would this mean that you have started a NEW contract with ATT (2 year commitment)?

I currently also have the $39.99 450 plan (w/ 15% discount). Do you think I can change my plan to have the new features (unlimited text and any mobile feature)?

  • Roger A

Interesting, my sister just called and left me a voicemail that when she called AT&T with her iPhone plan (450 Anytime for $39.99 plus $20 Unlimited Messaging plus $30 Unlimited Data) they made her “up her minutes” in her plan by $15 more so they could add it on. Which I messaged her, thats bull – so does anyone else know whats going on? Has anyone had to up their minutes to get this?

    • mayhem

My boyfriend called about this plan and got the same thing told to us! We have the 550 minutes, unlimited txt and 200mb data. Why do we have to up our minutes for this?

  • Nelson1002002

How do I add this feature? I have a family plan with unlimited messaging ($30/month).
