AT&T to offer unlimited any mobile to mobile calling; carrier agnostic, available tomorrow

mobile

Piggybacking on an offering available to Sprint customers for some time, AT&T will launch an unlimited “Mobile to Any Mobile” calling plan beginning tomorrow. Details on the plan, for the time being, are scarce. What we do know is that users will be required to have the $20, unlimited text-messaging plan ($30 for family plans) to be eligible for the program. No word on whether there will be an added fee for the any mobile-to-mobile privilege, or if it will now be a part of the unlimited messaging plan. Seems like a pretty good deal if it’s included free of charge… thoughts?

UPDATE: Unlimited, any mobile to mobile calling is included free with the unlimited text messaging plan. The full press release just crossed the wire and is waiting for you after the break.

smell the desperation from them since them losing the iPhone…. Glad I left em. They are going down.. Stepping to Sprints level now.. Only way to retain whats left of their existing customers after we all switch over.. Im not going to rage. but thats pretty cool. Should have made these moves sooner though is all I say..

at&t is not losing the iphone, plus on verizons model you cant multitask on it.. also verizon is putting a choke hold on its top 5% data users just to clear up the network? so the more data you use the more youll be restricted.. Nice touch verizon!!

What does this mean to new customers?
New customers can talk and message (text, picture, video, and instant message), as much as they want, with ANY mobile number, regardless of carrier, in the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands – from their Smartphone (including iPhone), QMP or Basic phone without worrying about overage charges.

What if my existing customer already has Messaging Unlimited? Does he need to do anything to take advantage of Mobile to Any Mobile Calling?Does he need to do anything to take advantage of Mobile to Any Mobile Calling?
Existing Messaging Unlimited customers will not be automatically migrated to this offer. The customer will first need to remove Messaging Unlimited from his account and then add the new Messaging Unlimited with Mobile to Any Mobile Calling feature in order to take advantage of the offer. He can do this by:

    · Adding the feature to their account via OLAM (Preferred Method)

    · Calling Customer Care

    · Visiting a local Retail Store

Is this feature available with A-List?
Yes. The A-List feature is available and works with this offer, even if the customer has another carrier’s mobile number in their list.

Will I receive a charge back if my customer switches from the Messaging Unlimited that I sold him last month to the new Mobile to Any Mobile & Messaging Offer?
No. A change between the Messaging Unlimited and the Mobile to Any Mobile Calling feature is considered a lateral move, so there is no revenue increase or decrease.

How do I provision this feature for an existing QMP customer with Messaging & Data Unlimited?
If your customer has MSGD on her account, remove this package and add:

    · The new Messaging Unlimited with Mobile to Any Mobile Calling feature.

    · Data Unlimited (DTAU) to ensure the customer maintains Unlimited Data access.

    What are the restrictions?
    Restrictions include:

    · Not available on all rate plans.

    · Not valid when calling or receiving calls from an international number.

    · Not available on AT&T Viva Mexico or Nation With Canada plans.

    · Text, picture, video, and instant messages must be sent to and/or received from within the AT&T nationwide coverage area.

What I think is amazingly comical in this whole at&t versus Verizon discussion is that Verizon is switching to a comparable GSM based network. So what will the excuse be when you have Verizon as your carrier and not be able to make calls because of network congestion and other inherently GSM problems here in the US?

    • SG

Learn to compare Apples to Apples. Just because Verizon’s LTE will have sim cards and data/voice capability does not make it a “comparable GSM based network”. LTE is very different from CDMA and GSM.
While some of ATT’s problems can be attributed to GSM limits, its mostly due to a very poor business model.

      • Da Truth

What’s poor about a business model that has lead it to be the nation’s largest carrier again? I am comparing apples to apples. Verizon will have to invest in a backhaul to supplement their LTE network, and what will that be? It must be a GSM based network. LTE is GSM based as opposed to their current CDMA, so you do not need to explain this to me. What I am stating is that fanboys for both side get on here and shout things based on emotion and not fact. Time will reveal that both at&t and Verizon will succeed in spite of limitations of the networks and devices. To attack at&t for being forward thinking is purely ignorant.

  • Drew

@Gru —-> So, it took your kid having a girlfriend to even make use of the 7 and a half days worth of minutes. No other carrier thought much to implement “Rollover Minutes” so yeah I still call that overrated. And who was talking to you anyway, you STFU!!

  • its me

i have all this…im ya grandpa

  • Scott

Wow. I was about to switch to Verizon. I’m staying now. About time you did something good while we deal with AT&T’s crap cell service. Unlimited changes the game for the price I’m paying with a government discount. Now give us our unlimited back for $25 and you won’t lose anyone. They should also do a package deal to include iPad data for $10 for 2GB if you are also an iPhone subscriber. They need to leverage their strengths or Verizon will wipe the floor with AT&T over the long term.

    • http://twitter.com/Gambler0 Cody R.

Verizon will wipe the floor with them this quarter.

  • Ejonlam

What’s the diff between this and A-List which is free on some plans!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1493970062 Tron Caldwell

A-List is for 5 numbers on an individual plan and 10 numbers on a family shared plan. This new mobile 2 any mobile service will allow you to call any wireless number regardless of carrier without using your daytime minutes.

  • Jmec45

AT&T has the fastest mobile broadband network CONFIRMED by Global Wireless Solutions, AND simultaneous voice and data is HUGE. I will admit that i am an AT&T customer but read about if before you guys complain. Rollover minutes is huge, you pay for the amount of minutes every month, and they let you keep them. Not take them away what you dont use, and the new mobile2anymobile is awesome for people who already have unlimited texting, and times are changing everyone will be texting soon whether we like it or not. and the “Select” plans are all the normal plans offered, the plans that are excluded are the 29.99 nationtalk plan, the 59.99 familytalk plan and the senior plan. GO AT&T

  • Rudyy50

    unlimited calling? wow.
considering the few calls people make compared to texting, it’s a big yawner; just a con job.

    • Bryancmeredith

how dare at&t con us into taking something for free…those bastards!!

  • Hilljack911

    Great Job AT&T!

  • shawi

I get that you hate AT&T, I do too but the way you express yourself about them makes you sound IGNORANT! Calm down and more civil when expressing yourself about these bad companies!

  • http://twitter.com/Gambler0 Cody R.

Ok, Verizon, time to copy their calling plan, like they have copied yours so many times, because for once, they have a better deal than you.

  • Ganthonyv

Verizon been had this feature but congrats to AT&T
