Amazon lists HTC Thunderbolt with February 14th release date

mobile

Best Buy may have retail exclusivity on the HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon Wireless, but it looks like that honor will only extend to brick-and-mortar stores. Online retail giant Amazon has the LTE handset listed as “coming soon” with the tag line: “The HTC ThunderBolt 4G will be available for purchase starting 2/14.” Now, we’re hoping purchase actually means purchase, not pre-order. February 14th and 24th have been the two most popular release prognostications amongst tech sites, and Best Buy’s press release did say the handset would be available in “mid-February.” Could the 14th and not the 24th be the launch date for the device? We should know soon enough.

Thanks, Ryan!

can’t wait…I am all over this. The Dinc has been great, but I am ready for a change!

…I would kill to have a Dinc (I got the Droid) :P

But, yes, I’m all over the TBolt as well. Might even buy it full retail.

I can’t believe this has BING on it. I guess that is why its not a DROID Thunderbolt.

Where do you see that it has BING on it? All of the pictures of the Thunderbolt from CES clearly show the “with Google” on the back of the phone, and Amazon says it has integrated Google Technology “including Google Search by voice” – no where does it mention BING.

What? Use the eyes grasshopper, WITH GOOGLE!!! Clearly plastered on the back of the phone…LOL!

I also still say the 24th for this thing, another mess up by Verizon as usual. They want nothing to cloud the iPhone release, and the 24th gives them the 14 day window to avoid iPhone returns.

That’s odd, everyone who has preordered from best buy, myself included, has been told the 14th. But you know better.

      • Mgymnop

I am sure it will be the 14th. They said mid February and the 24th is not the mid of February.

      • Dustin Knowlton

I was being sarcastic, but yeah, I’m with you, 14th for sure. Maybe even sooner according to the Best Buy I went to, if they get them in sooner.

      • Mgymnop

There is no 14 day return window in CA, so I highly doubt that this speaks for a release on the 24th.

Wait I thought it was announced that Best Buy would have retail exclusivity. Or does that just mean they will be the only brick and mortar store selling them?

    • defTwitch

Ah… did you just read the headline and come comment without making it past the first sentence? Or am I feeding a troll right now!?

Thank god… I really didn’t want to go to best buy.

How would the 24th be mid-February? There are only 28 days in February. The 24th is 4 days until the month is over!

This is what I get on this CRAPPY DROID X when I click on the Amazon link above:

‘This mobile site does not currently support the purchase of this item. Add it to your Wish List and you can view and purchase it from your computer.
    Add to Wish List’.

    Note to all:
Motorola has a watered-down pathetic browser; HTC actually has a “full browser”, with a browser setting to disable “mobile view”.

you can navigate to about:debug or about:config, then hit menu>settings and change it to display desktop style pages. i agree it is not a user friendly option to change, but it is possible.

        @jason6g
Thanks, I’ll try that later. Honestly, I’m just so disinterested in this phone that I’ve dismissed researching how to make it better. When I had my EVOOOO I didn’t have to (or want to) change a thing.

    • Iceman!!

Just go to the market and download skyfire and its free. Plus it also has flash to watch videos. One of the best browsers for androids!!!! Plus u will have full Amazon web pages!!!

      • iceman

I use it on my Droid x

      • http://twitter.com/p0di podiâ„¢

skyfire is such a great browser!

      • Anonymous

I tried Skyfire; multiple tabs always crashed. And, I still got BGR and Engadget “mobile” sites. Flash didn’t always work. Never had this issue on my EVOOOO. I always saw this as a temporary phone, but, I won’t buy Motorola in the future.

Or you can go to the market & dl the amazon app. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the app

    I told you… “TRUST ME” …

I pre-ordered one this Sunday at Best Buy. The person I spoke with said the store would have them on the 13th and start filling pre-orders that day. She said they would continue filling pre-orders on Monday the 14th before opening to general sales. She also said that if the pre-orders stack up enough, they will set up pre-order to justify purchase “appointments”

  • Jstarnite1

if you buy from Amazon do you have to sign a contract with a phone subscriber?

  • Demofya

Dammit!, And I winded up with the Droid X. I could have waited just 4 more months and been able to get the phone that will change everything for smartphones worldwide.,,, sigh. :(

    • Dotson817

So did I, but I’m getting this phone still :) had to lol

  • Anonymous

Why are they making this so complicated

  • Anonymous

The coming soon seems to be gone from amazon now… :/

  • Blondi4543

I just spoke to a Verizon customer service rep. and she told me that the release date would be the 14th. :) Very excited now.
