Verizon iPhone 4 hands-on (again)

mobile

Today is the day a bunch of folks who stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to pre-order will finally begin to receive their Verizon iPhone 4 deliveries. We just snagged ours, and after a bit of a hiccup with activation on the device itself (it failed multiple times until we restarted the handset), it’s been smooth sailing. We’ll obviously follow up with some thoughts on the device versus the AT&T-flavored version, but in the meantime, hit our gallery for an unboxing and some hands-on photos, alright?

So now you won’t be able to run 3,000 apps at the same time and have a battery life of 3 months and be totally OPEN. Now you won’t be able to roam the web because Apple is closed and you need to ask them permission to go to websites. Of course, the App Store’s even worse. Steve Jobs himself approves applications, all 300,000 of them and if he doesn’t like them, you are screwed!

Android is TOTALLY OPEN. Anyone can put whatever they want in the store and consumers decide which apps are good or bad for them. And if they have NO clue about technology, yeah about 95% of the population, so be it, because it’s still OPEN!!!!

open like your moms legs dweeb

Totally open? Not really but Android is fragmented crap. I liken it to dating a model or picking up a crab infested whore on the corner. I like the model. You can stick with the crabs.

I guess I’m different than most people. The biggest thing I hear people complain about with the VZW iPhone is that it will be slow (dataspeed) and you can’t simultaneously talk and access data. Neither of those things seem nearly as relevant to me or my usage of a PHONE as the phone functionality. I’ve been around several different people in several different parts of the country that have the AT&T iPhone and I watch all of them grimace in pain over the same issue… Their phone isn’t functional as a phone. That’s what I’m most concerned about

  • Nusrat

Great! Now people can buy an outdated phone and when the iPhone 5 arrives, they’ll be the first ones cussing Verizon and Apple about selling them an outdated phone.

I’ll only switch now if Verizon announced the stop of the unlimited plan (data) otherwise I’ll wait til WWDC 2011

    Verizon:

Putting the PHONE in the ‘i’.

    Bring it.

I’m an apple fan boy, who uses a Droid, and even I’m starting to get tired of all the iPhone on Verizon posts. Come on BGR, it’s old news. Get me info on the latest Droid phones, or the iPhone 5.

I’ve worked for Verizon for over 10 years now, so I feel I’m well qualified to make a few points.
      1. iPhone is welcomed with open arms….great to have choice in this country!
      2. It truly is last years technology. Even the Droid Incredible can do more….much, much more.
      3. With LTE phones, such as Thunderbolt launching…the iPhone is best suited for exclusive mac users or anyone who prefers a very simplistic experience. Android is for the “tinker-ers” of this tech world. If you don’t like someone telling you how to use your phone, get a Droid.
      4. The race seems to be narrowed to 2 platforms….nothing else really compares>>>BUT ITS A HELL OF A FUN RACE!!!
      5. And this is only…I REPEAT, ONLY, for the most technologically savvy: ROOT YOUR ANDROID!!!! VZW has loaded too many items, and these phones are modern marvels when they are free!!!! That is the upper hand that Apple brings (not allowing VZW to add bloat-ware)

      Sincerely….jc.

As for the iPhone 5 talk, I just don’t think that’s a valid excuse to not get the Verizon iPhone now. There have been rumors about a Verizon iPhone for years and it’s only now coming true, so I won’t trust any iPhone 5 rumors yet. If it does get announced soon, I seriously doubt it will launch on Verizon anytime soon. Finally, I really don’t think there is anything left to do with the iPhone…I don’t think there is new territory for an iPhone 5 to stomp on. The phone is pretty solid already and I can’t imagine there any new addition to the iPhone that is needed that is beyond software updates. I don’t think there will even be another version of the iPhone anytime in the immediate future.

    • Jwalker

I agree, I highly doubt if an Iphone 5 launches this summer Verizon will get it….ATT will have it for the first 6 months….

  • DBo

Anyone else notice it looks like did the review and took pictures inside a car? Must have run home for the delivery and did a review on the way back to work…

  • Ankur

got mine yesterday..not a good first time experience… See only 2 or 3 bars at home and work. Wondering if its grip issue , dont have a case yet.

Data – keep switching between 3G and blank. You tube playback is bad , video stops every 5 seconds to buffer.
Phone is getting very warm on the sides where the metal is.. Called customer support , they will send a replacement when available.

    Not a good experence :(

  • James T

Got my iphone yesterday. Its straight, it is the same thing as a android to me, I did have a incredible and the moto droid x. I still like the phone very much because of its look, but everything the iphone does the droid does and a lot better in different areas. I was a proud blackberry users, droid user and now a content iphone user. ENJOY YOUR VERIZON IPHONE!

I just got mine today. Is anybody else having problems activating it? I called Verizon and they told me its not meant to be activated yet. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Yeah

“Could not activate cellular data network”

HUH!!!! I have a data plan!!!!

I have called both Verizon and Apple multiple times and nothing they tell me to do works!!!! Any thoughts?

I have already reset (totally reset 3 or 4 times), checked data network, programmed and updated roaming!!!! What else can I do?

    • ej

I guess the first representative i talked to had no idea what she was talking about. I called Verizon again about 5 minutes later and the new representative set it up flawlessly. So try again?

  • Yeah : (

After hours on the phone with Apple and Verizon, nothing! Problem not solved! They are doing a “fix it” ticket for the network but I know that isn’t the problem. People at work with Verizon had not trouble accessing their data today! So irritated. They mentioned they might have to send me a new phone and that could take a week and a half and meanwhile I have to deactivate the iPhone and use my old phone!!! What they heck!

    • Brian

Mine didn’t have Data until I also accepted terms in the iTunes store. Have you gone through complete activation through VZW and iTunes?

      • Yeah

Yeah, I have done that three or four times because each person at VZ I talked to had me completely reset the phone and start over! Very frustrated!

  • Drew

Why on God’s green Earth would there ever be a reason to re-visit this post from a week ago?? Not to mention you will have another (few) posts on Thursday about the release. Wow, the boredom must be at an all-time high.
