Telus to start unlocking all devices February 15th for a fee

Exclusive

We have just been informed that as of February 15th, Telus in Canada will be offering SIM unlocking options on almost all handsets and devices. To qualify, you will need to be an active post-paid customer with an account that has been open for a minimum of 90 days. Telus will charge $50 for the unlock code and will unlock both iDEN and GSM devices. Not a bad offering, right?

Not a bad offering at all, except you can buy unlock codes for 99 cents on ebay. Why are they allow to gouge like this?

$50 is a joke, In Canada we have monopolies that need to be broken up except our regulatory body the CRTC is made up from the monopolies who justify crap like this all the time. A complete and utter ripoff.

I am not surprised at the cost charged by Telus.

I can’t see many using their codes when other avenues usually work to the same ends.

Its a total laugh and honest I do not believe the people of Canada are that stupid. I live in the UK and you can the most you pay to unlock is max £10. Usually starts as low as £1. Oh well, good luck Telus, Long live Robin Hood :) )

Better than Rogers retarded position of needing to be clear of contract, but still a racket.

“We’ve implemented an intentional defect in your phone. For only $50, we will fix it for you”.

Right up there with a protection racket. But still better than Rogers.

In addition, 3 years is the contract standard usually. I would hope Canadian customers opt for an unlocked phone. I live not far from Vancouver, BC. Their monopolies definitely need to be broken up.

Because you can buy them for 99 cents on ebay why would you pay 50 bucks? is that not capitalism vote with your dollar. They are gonna charge 50 bucks because they are a business and people will pay 50 dollars. You dont need a cellphone you want one. Government should mandate the things you need not the things you want. is that not what Capitalism is, little to no government interference? Do you not love capitalism? Commie.

Sidenote for clarification purposes.. the capitalism bit is to be humorous.

Which is a rip if you’ve completed the term of your contract. T-Mobile and AT&T will give you the unlock code if you’re current and have been a subscriber for more than 90 days. (AT&T won’t give you unlocks for iPhone.)
