Sony Ericsson to unveil Xperia Play on February 13th

Gaming

The worst kept secret in the cell phone industry is no longer a secret: Sony Ericsson officially outed the Xperia Play smartphone in a creepy commercial that premiered during Super Bowl XLV. Officially premiered, that is, since the spot was first revealed online last week as yet another slip in a string of leaks that began months ago. The Xperia Play will be the first Android smartphone to feature Sony’s PlayStation Suite, a gaming platform for cell phones that will eventually bring an extensive developer-friendly gaming environment to several smartphone operating systems. For now, it’ll let people play PSone games on the Xperia Play. Sony Ericsson has announced on its Product Blog that the Xperia Play will be unveiled at a Mobile World Congress press event on February 13th, and we’ll be there live to cover all the action. Hit the break for Sony Ericsson’s Super Bowl commercial featuring some good ol’ back-alley surgery, and get ready for the Xperia Play to finally get official on Sunday.

Did my eyesight fail me? Did that article just say it will let people play PS ONE games? What about PS2 games or even god forbid, PSP games? PSone?, Are we flashing back to 1995 in a back to the future moment? This thing had better be a lot more capable than PSOne games.

I know SE already mentioned that a optimized 2.1 is better than a “vanilla update”…. But, I think it might be a good investment to keep all these x10, x10mini, x10mini pro, x8 customers happy.

Not for nothing, this guy at my gym in a Philly suburb had a white one already. I didn’t expect the phone to be that huge.

This is the dumbest set to hit the market. It should be sold at Toys R Us and other toy stores, and not to being a “smartphone”…In fact, most of the “smartphones” out there are toys…

I miss the “old” days when smartphones were business-centered for adult business persons.
