Did you have problems pre-ordering Verizon’s iPhone 4?

mobile

Accompanied by fluttering harps, shooting beams of light and a sustained angelic chorus, pre-orders for Verizon Wireless’ iPhone 4 went live on both Apple and Verizon’s websites early this morning. We received countless reports from eager customers who put in their orders for the highly anticipated handset overnight. Many were just checking in to share their elation with us, but as can only be expected when you combine a highly anticipated product, hoards of anxious customers and Web servers, we heard several tales of woe as well. Judging from the barrage of emails we received over the course of the night, Verizon’s system went down at least once around 4:00AM EST. We also heard from several readers who said it took them 30, 40, even 60 minutes or more to place their orders thanks to ridiculously slow page load times and repeated failed attempts to process orders. The frustration was enough to drive some subscribers away, it would seem; one would-be iPhone owner told us, “Forget it… I’ll just stick with my stupid BlackBerry.” It looks like most were able to persevere, however. How did you fare, readers? Sing us your songs of victory or bear your battle scars in the comments section below.

I tried the Verizon order page around 12 and it kept giving me an error so I tried the Apple website and that went through pretty smooth. A little slow, but smooth.

Got in at 1155 PST with no problems. Was done in 5 minutes. Wham bam – purchased and just waiting for it to arrive now.

It was a breeze! Started my order 10 mintues before 3AM EST…Everything was VERY fast…Too many people are stupid and waited too long..and server would crash!

I seem to be confused on the pricing! When I went to order, I was expected to pay full retail for the stupid thing. I thought all existing customers were granted the $199/$299 price, and if your “new in two” is eligible, then you get another discount. Does anyone know any details on that whole thing?

if you’re currently in a contract, you do not get the lower pricing.

if you currently in contract you don’t get it
      OR
if you recently bought a phone from verizon you can get a discount, in store only though

Set my alarm for 2:55 am…got my bearings around 2:59 am..and ordered away right at 3 am. no problems. Went back to sleep 10 minutes later!

I was able to log on around 1:58 CDT time (according to my Droid) and cruised through the order process in only a couple minutes. One of my coworkers from the same town and ISP had significantly more trouble around the same time though. Maybe I just got lucky.

The pre-order actually started before 1AM Mountain time, I was able to put my order in around 1255, thought that was strange.

why is it that they are charging $599 on the Apple website, but $649 on Verizon’s website?

I logged on at 2:57 EST and had fast page loads and absolutely zero problems. Sorry to anyone who got screwed.

the pre-ordering system is all messed up. verizon charges an extra $50 for full retail compared to apple. verizon’s website won’t allow me to complete the order because it’s asking for the company field which doesn’t even show up. apple’s website is not porting over my apt number. apple’s website won’t allow shipping address to be changed according to FCC. talk about frustrating!

Verizon Wireless, facing an increase in data consumption as Apple Inc.’s iPhone goes on sale, said it will prevent users from downloading entire videos at once to help “ease capacity burdens on the network.”

Verizon will also eliminate some colors and other data from videos that it deems to be “not visible to the human eye,” according to the policy disclosed on its Web site. “The loss of information from the input file may result in reduced color accuracy and sharpness.”

Placed orders for 3 phones. Unfortunately on a business account I couldn’t find any way to order all 3 at once (as buddy upgrades); I had to put in 3 separate orders, which was annoying due to the incredible slowness of the site.

FWIW though, the Verizon business site is often slower than shit flowing from a constipated dog. I will usually click submit on a page on their site, go read a BGR article or something, and then flip back to the tab to find it JUST beginning to load the next content. The speed was certainly worse last night with people all over it, but honestly it’s *always* bad.

Kept getting a JavaScript error on the shipping address page if I tried to ship the iPhone to a business instead of a residence, and I couldn’t proceed from that point because the “Company Name” field never showed up. I tried in IE8, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Then I finally read a tip on a forum about using IE7 instead, so I switched my IE8 into Compatibility Mode, and sure enough, it worked like a charm.

No issues. Order completed within 15 minutes.

I pre ordered mine as an add a line at 11am PST and it went through. Was surprised to see the add a line option as I was previously told it wouldn’t be possible.

I experienced the slow page loads and numerous application errors, but my mom really wanted the phone so I stuck with it and after 90 minutes I was able to order the phone for her. However, I’m not complaining because hell, what was everyone supposed to expect. Tens of thousands of ppl logged onto the same website at once, clicking the same links; it was bound to be slow. I’m just glad the site wasn’t down for hours. Good work Verizon and Apple. However, I’ll be sticking with my rooted Dinc. Android FTW!

  • Hendjaz

I successfully placed my order and received email confirmation in a total of about 10 minutes. Finished by midnight PST as doors opened early. VZW was really prepared.

Tried to order iPhone at 3:30 am and have it shipped to my office. When I put in my office address it gave me an error message and asked for the name of the company – but didn’t have anywhere I could enter the name (it only asked for first and last names) I waited til later – same issue, so I had it shipped next door. Other than that easy.

Yeah, i was one of the frustrated customers who woke up at 2:55 am only to spend at least 30 minutes trying to process my pre-order through the e-mail/link the Verizon sent to me days before! I never got my pre-order through Verizon. I gave up, but luckily, I thought I’d try the Apple Store and was successful.

I sent an e-mail to Verizon to complain … and that simply added insult to injury. A live rep called me and was obviously going through a script. She had no clue what problem she was trying to apologize about … and she was even trying to solve the problem by asking all these stupid password Qs even as I explained over and over that I had the right usernames and passwords. As if that wasn’t enough. I get an e-mail next day from the same rep again with a templated script in the body of her e-mail … accusing me again of wrong account information and password!!!! She does not GET IT!!!! Verizon does not get it!!!! They failed and can’t even properly apologize for that!!!!!
