Best Buy’s Buy Back program free from February 6th to 26th?

Retail

According to a report filed by Droid-Life, electronics retailer Best Buy will be allowing consumers to opt-in to its recently announced Buy Back Program, free of charge, from February 6th to the 26th. Best Buy hopes the giveaway will draw attention to its new offering; often referred to by the company as “future proofing.” What else will BB be doing to draw attention to said program? Well, they’ll be running a Superbowl commercial during the third-quarter of this year big game staring… Justin Bieber. Sigh. Regardless, if you plan on purchasing a phone, laptop, or television around that time, why not get in on the Buy Back program for free?

UPDATE: We’re being told that Best Buy Mobile will be offering the Buy Back program free to customers from February 6th to the 26th; all other departments will have the promotion running from the 6th to the 12th.

So, if I sign up. Am I eligible to use it to return my Droidx that was purchased from them in July, and put the money towards my soon to be Tbolt?

Not for the Droidx. Would apply to the phone you would be purchasing.

nope, buyback has to be purchased the same day as the phone.

Seems this might be somewhat enticing to the undeducated consumer, but those of us in the know will just buy a TV or other expensive piece of equipment online at a huge discount, then recoup some of the cost by selling it on Craigslist or something similar, then use that money toward our next purchase. Chances are, the money you can sell it for to another person would be more than what Best Buy is going to pay you.

In some cases it will be better to sell it online, but the buyback will pay you back 50% of the item’s original price if traded back in in the first six months, or 40% if traded back in within the year. For people who aren’t comfortable selling items online or may not be too good at it, buyback is a pretty sweet deal.
