AT&T to Offer Wireless Trade-In Option Across Retail Locations

Customers Can Trade-In Old Phones for Premium Value

DALLAS, Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — AT&T* today announced that it is working with FlipSwap – a global leader in consumer electronics buyback programs – to bring a new trade-in service to AT&T stores nationwide. Beginning February 13, FlipSwap’s trade-in service will launch in all AT&T stores, allowing AT&T customers to turn in old wireless phones and receive an AT&T promotional card reflective of the device’s trade-in value and condition, as determined by FlipSwap. Customers can use the card to offset the cost of some of the latest wireless devices or the purchase of other AT&T products and services. All phones – regardless of manufacturer or date purchased – will be considered for trade-in.

Here’s how the program will work:

  • Customers can visit any AT&T retail location to take advantage of the trade-in, available to AT&T customers purchasing a device through either new service activation or a device upgrade.
  • Store representatives will facilitate the trade-in request in real-time and provide the customer with a value estimate.
  • Representatives will also provide all the necessary FlipSwap instructions and forms – including detailed instructions on how to wipe the device clean of any personal information – as well as a prepaid USPS padded envelope and shipping label for the device; customers simply follow the instructions, package their phones and mail the envelope.
  • Customers will receive an AT&T promotional card – good for use in any AT&T store or online at http://www.att.com – in the mail roughly two to four weeks after FlipSwap receives the device and verifies its condition.

“This is a new option we’re bringing into our stores to offer even more value to our customers,” said John Dwyer, senior vice president, Retail Sales Operations, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.

“Customers can now trade-in phones they no longer need and use the trade-in value to offset the expense of their new device or other services. We’re excited to make this available across all of our company owned stores.”

AT&T also offers customers the option to donate old devices – or proceeds from their trade-in – to members of the military through AT&T’s support of the Cell Phones for Soldiers program. Donation boxes are set up across AT&T retail locations.

*AT&T products and services are provided or offered by subsidiaries and affiliates of AT&T Inc. under the AT&T brand and not by AT&T Inc.

Can I trade in my IPhone 3 for an IPhone 4

  • It makes me laugh

Radio Shack does everything on the spot, AT&T needs to get it together. Why would anyone wait 2-4 weeks!!!

No way! you get raped with these kinds of trade in values… sell on ebay or craigslist, you’ll get at least twice for your item.

This kind of thing has been going on for ages now with non-COR AT&T stores. You know, authorized realtors. Except they give you your discount on a phone then and there.

Most people(anyone under the age of 80) will sell their device on Craigs or EBay after they purchase their new device. I’m an employee at you know where and this has fail written all over it!

Don’t do it! Flipswap totally screwed me when I tried to “sell” them my old iPhone. Their website told me $149.00, I mailed it in, they sent me a check for $39. I e-mailed them, they claimed they “readjusted their offer” when they received the phone (no reason given for change in price). They claimed part of their microscopic print in the online contract stated that they can change their price offer without notification. They wouldn’t send back my phone (even if I sent back the check). Don’t use them for any reason.

Seriously.. wtf? That’s not a trade in. A trade in would be i instantaneously get a discount on my new purchase, this is just an inconvenient buy back plan. Unless their prices are good, it sounds like a waste.

this is awesome. Ive used Flipswap a bunch in the past and they have always been great. Paid fast – no problems. excellent customer service. this is great way to get free AT&T service. If you have some old phones, send them in and use the credit to pay your monthly bill. Big time.

  • Lisa

Sounds great! I actually used Flipswap once, and they gave me exactly what the amount they promised me! Can’t wait to take my old phones to AT&T and see what I can get for them.

  • Jen

Traded in my phone with Flipswap 1 month ago, the website was a bit confusing but I got the check of the amount they told me and their customer service was very helpful! Good thing to be able to go to AT&T now

  • Shakmuk

Used Flipswap. They gave me what they told me they’d give me. They were fair, I would use them again.

  • cguy

sounds cool to me. I’ll trade my 3gs and get a 4 finally! CL and ebay sure, but its so annoying to deal with – I’d rather take a little less and let someone else deal with 600 emails from morons on ebay.

    @joe and hawaiiinsomniac

I’ve never understood people like you – so you would never trade in your car when buying a new one cause you can get more private party? You would never eat out at a restaurant cause you can cook at home for cheaper? You would never use a dry cleaner, cause obviously laundry at home costs lost? Really? Its called “a service.” Of course they’re going to pay you less than you can get on CL or eBay, but thats specifically because you don’t have to wast your time doing it. Of course, some people’s time is much more valuable than others …

Don’t use them at all, instead sell your phone on eBay or craigslist. Look on Google, Flipswap has a horrible reputation and has been known to rip people off. I am astonished that they fooled AT&T into collaborating with them.
