BlackBerry App World update brings in-app payments

mobile

Research In Motion on Wednesday announced a new version of its on-device software store for BlackBerry smartphones, BlackBerry App World. Version 2.1 brings several changes to RIM’s app store — the most notable of which is the introduction of an in-app payment mechanism. BlackBerry app developers will now be able to offer digital and virtual goods to users from within their apps, and payments will be taken and processed by RIM’s new payment service. A related SDK has been released to developers, allowing them to build the new in-app purchase functionality into their existing apps.

good to see RIM being proactive these days, indeed a good day for developers as both RIM and Google today announced enhanced store front and in-app payments.

    Bring it on RIM!

It’s hard to make any app for BBs, since even their flagship phone the Torch has only 512 MB of space for apps (doesn’t matter what size SD card you put in, that’s for music and pictures) and limited processing power.

Man I wish RIM would step it up…. they are falling way behind. Even the Motorola Razr lost it’s appeal after a few years. Droid and Apple are doing something right. Who will be a contender?
