Best Buy will carry Verizon iPhone on launch day; not taking pre-orders

In a written statement today, Best Buy announced that it would indeed be carrying the long-awaited Verizon iPhone on launch day, February 10th.

“The iPhone 4 is an important device for Best Buy and we are excited to help Apple and Verizon Wireless bring it to even more consumers,” said the president of Best Buy Mobile, Shawn Score. “Our customers have come to expect Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores to carry the best selection of mobile phones anywhere, and offering the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network is our latest effort to deliver on that promise.”

What the mobile retailer will not be doing, however, is offering pre-orders of the device; that honor is solely reserved for Verizon Wireless. So… if you are going to be one of the yahoos looking to acquire a Verizon iPhone on February 10th: sharpen up those elbows and start mapping out the closest Verizon Wireless, Apple, and Best Buy retail locations. The full statement is after the break.

Best Buy today announced that the iPhone 4 from Apple on the Verizon Wireless network will be available in Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores across the country beginning Feb. 10, the first day the device is available to the public.

“The iPhone 4 is an important device for Best Buy and we are excited to help Apple and Verizon Wireless bring it to even more consumers,” said Shawn Score, president of Best Buy Mobile. “Our customers have come to expect Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores to carry the best selection of mobile phones anywhere, and offering the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network is our latest effort to deliver on that promise.”

The iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless retails for $199 for 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model with a new or qualified upgrade with two-year agreement.

I would be incredibly elated if sales of this phone were average considering the hype.

    That would make my day.

Unfortunately, after reading your comments, I would guess few of your days are ever “made,” so I’d expect the Verizon iPhone to be a hit.

It would seem that there is a pretty substantial inventory of Verizon iPhone 4′s….

  • uCosom

I heard they’re giving away a free cup of “kool-aid” with every iPhone. Them Apple folks is nice people.

  • Asdf

Just called a local best buy and they have a list u can get on the guarantees you a iPhone with a $50 deposit on the phone .

  • VZW National Retailer

Not sure how this is possible considering only corporate stores and online is the only way to pre-order and purchase the devices until March 3rd when indirect fullfill will go in effect.

    • V for Vendetta

I think Best Buy can do that because they own the inventory. They simply keep a phone in reserve for the people that gave them a deposit and sell the rest on first come first served basis.

I also agree with an earlier post that Verizon has a substantial inventory and you won’t have to take a reaincheck. There will be lines but not as long as they were on the June-2010 iPhone 4 launch.

I gave up trying to get an iphone 4 and recently decided to wait for iphone 5

But seriously am I going to wait another 6 or 7 months for a phone I may not be able to get or should I consider one of these great new android phones that are coming out every month or so?

I really like the look and fesatures of the Thunderbolt – it has many features iphone doesn’t have and may not have in version 5.

I just dojn’t see myself waiting 7 more months – my 3GS is wearing out and if it goes – I won’t have much choice, Thunderbolt here I come.

Best Buy is a great place to purchase a phone when they sell it for cheaper than Verizon itself. But if the costs are the same, i’m more comfy going to a corporate store. Indirect retailers are a joke.
