Verizon Wireless drops pricing on Samsung Fascinate, Motorola DROID R2-D2, more

mobile

In confirming over the weekend that Verizon Wireless would be doing away with mail-in rebates on smartphones priced at $150 and higher, we also mentioned that price drops were expected to take effect today on several devices. Sure enough, several smartphones saw price reductions this morning as Verizon Wireless’ new policy slid into place. Among them are the Motorola DROID R2-D2, which can now be had for $99.99 with a new contract, and the HTC DROID Incredible and Samsung Fascinate are now available at the same price. Of note, the Fascinate’s price drop appears to be temporary as part of Verizon’s new “10 days of sweet deals” promotion, which offers a new deal each day leading up to February 10th, when the carrier is set to launch the iPhone 4.

How’s the resale on those Androids phones?

It’s not terrible. You can’t fetch the near-retail prices that used iPhones get, but recent phones still fetch anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of full retail on eBay. Off-contract prices almost never drop, so resale value isn’t affected all that much by price drops like these.

On Craigslist where I live you can get a 1.5 year old 32Gb iphone 3GS for 400 and a droid incredible allegedly 3 months old for 250.

I wish they’d occasionally drop the off-contract prices. Current customers have feelings too!

Log Droid sold for 300 back in June.
Funny seemed like people thought the r2d2 was gonna sell out over night.

So much for the $50 premium on this limited edition Droid phone.
