Motorola ATRIX 4G dock to retail for $60?

mobile

Thanks to several leaks, we have a pretty good beat on what Motorola’s ATRIX 4G will retail for — $150 — and now, according to some new intel, we’re starting to get an idea of what the handsets accessories could cost. According to a page posted by online wireless retailer Fommy, the ATRIX’s HD multimedia dock — complete with HDMI-out and three USB ports — will set you back a very reasonable $59.95. If earlier rumors about the ATRIX 4G’s laptop dock turn out to be true, you can get yourself a 4Gish, dual-core, super phone complete with a multimedia and laptop dock for around $360 on-contract. While that isn’t a small amount of cash, it is much cheaper than purchasing a smartphone and netbook with the associated wireless contracts separately. What do you think? Do any of you plan on purchasing the ATRIX trifecta when available?[Via Gizmodo]

    Not I..Screw AT&T.

I’m wondering how things would work out when folks start pulling down truckloads of data with these accessories with their 2GB cap.

      • Donny

They probably will insist to use their home wifi….At&t is such a joke.

I actually do everything on wifi…if there was a no data option for smart phones i would use it because i have wifi at home, and basically everywhere i go so 2GB is no problem for me at all…on a good month i use about 500MBs, but then again i guess i dont use my phone like u guys do. I live in South FL, even the department stores have free wifi…heck the laundry mats have free wifi.

On topic…I read an article before that said the dock would cost like $150 and i was definately not interested, but for 60 i might get into it…i would mostly just use it to show off with the whole “look what i can do” attitude, i do all my media streaming though my XBox. This would be so i can show off at my girls house.

Maybe that’s what AT&T wants them to do…

I think this laptop dock is an interesting idea but I have to wonder how useful it will be. At the end of the day its usefulness will be determined by the available applications and the flexibility of the OS. Still this could be a forerunner of things to come.

You can run all the Android that’s on your phone and all the web apps/flash games from your broswer. One nice set of web apps you can run are the Microsoft Ofices web apps – you can create, edit and view all types of Office documents. With Citrix, you have full access to your company’s data. The laptop dock is just a screen, keyboard, mouse, and battery – no storage or memory.

I believe it is, I fully expect Android when undocked and ChromeOS when it is docked. In any case the price points are awesome.

So, Are the Atrix and the Bionic basically the same phone? will all acc. for one be ok for the other?

    • Anonymous

I believe i read an article that said the Bionic wont be able to do the whole docking thing at launch, but they assume there would be an update eventually to allow it…besides that they are the pretty much same phone minus 4 key details. They’re on different carriers obviously, the Bionic has a 4.3″ screen compared to the Atrix’s 4″, the Bionic has 512MB of RAM to the Atrix’s 1GB, and lastly the Atrix has a higher screen resolution than the Bionic.

Seems Interesting news, what is the reason of low pricing of Motorola’s ATRIX 4G, whether tough competition with its competitors, Laptop Deck is quite interesting idea for me at least but only time will tell us how successful it is..

Personal computing has been heading this way for a very long time. I don’t purchase my netbooks, lap/desk tops from a wireless phone provider and won’t do so this go around either.
I’ll pay the freight outright and purchase an unlocked model then jailbreak/flash (this is a Moto after all) as desired. A SIM will be purchased as needed from whoever is cheapest wherever I happen to be.
The majority of my work has been shifted to browser based apps like a 2D vector board design utility. Later.

I thought the laptop had a dock attached to it, as in it was included with purchase. So you have to dock a dock to your laptop… dock?

    • http://www.facebook.com/brandon.im Brandon Im

the multimedia dock is to hook it up to your desktop monitor/TV etc…the laptop does have a dock included.

      • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

That’s what I thought, then why are they saying, “$360″ for the netbook/phone combo? Shouldn’t it just be $300 because the other $60 dock isn’t necessary for the “laptop” dock?

      • http://twitter.com/Bluenik25 Nik Brown

        WOW

      • Dio

the article doesn’t say $360 for the netbook/phone combo. article says $360 for phone, multimedia AND laptop dock. neither dock is dependant on the other, so obviously if you don’t want one of the docks, subtract the price of that dock from $360

This will be my next phone when I upgrade later this year!!

  • Scott

I can not wait to ditch my iPhone for the Atrix. I haven’t decided which dock I’ll buy. I see myself using the laptop dock more, but I already use my laptop at home often, so… I’ll probably buy this dock, and for $60, it doesn’t sound too bad!

If the rumored prices are true then I think Motorola has a winner here with a lot of help from their pricing.

  • http://twitter.com/jrcrow79 EK

Lol…I dont have a laptop to dock anything so I dont care..hahah

  • http://twitter.com/jrcrow79 EK

I’m gonna keep my $30 unlimited iphone plan so I dont have to hear people whine about going over 2gb of data..lmao!

  • Jae

I only plan to get the Atrix 4G to compare to my iPhone-4 signal and service, i do not care if it has a dual core processor and 1gb of Ram, If I still can not get service or drop calls in the middle of a conversation IT IS ALL USELESS!!!!

Do you guys think the Atrix 4G will have the same reception problems that the iPhone-4 has?

    • Scott

No, because they put their antenna on the inside! Actually, Motorola makes some really good antennas. I remember that my Razr2 could get better 3G signal in more places than my iPhone 3G could. I’d say, give it a shot. It should be a whole lot better! I returned my iPhone 4 and have been waiting for the Atrix. The antenna is horrible on the 4. But if the Atrix is still dropping calls, then I’d say switch carriers.

I really want the phone…high res screen, lots of powa, lots of MAh. I’m planning to get that, then I’ll pick up a multimedia dock sometime later. Not sure if I want to spring for the laptop thingy, though I like the idea. For some scenarios, a tablet attachment might be a neat idea too.

IAC, I’m really happy Moto isn’t gouging for these accessories…it’s like they really want people to buy and use them. Neat.

It’s funny to listen to people whining about data useage. At work and at home, I have access to WiFi, and my use out and about is next to non-existent, so I am more than happy with the $15 200 MB data plan. Heck I only use about 100 MB on network, but my WiFi usage is 10GB+, but it’s all free for me, suckas!

    • Dio

      congratulations!

60 is not cheap. I’d prefer 30. It’s just a dock at the end. Considering there are other phones that provide similar (just TV connectivity, no USB connections) service using just an included cable. Anyway, I am still getting this phone and dock. Not interested in Laptop dock thingy.
