Android tablets finally dent iPad market share

Tablets

Lead by the impressive sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, the Android platform is finally starting to gain momentum in the emerging consumer tablet market. Analytics firm Strategy Analytics reports that Android owned 22% of the global tablet market in the fourth quarter of 2010. The iPad’s share of the market dropped from 96% to 75% in the fourth quarter last year, according to the report. Apple shipped 7.3 million iPads last quarter, up 74% from the third quarter, while 2.1 million Android tablets were shipped — 2 million of which were built by Samsung. But Samsung won’t be carrying the market on its own for long. Android is already well on its way to overrunning the consumer tablet market as it did with smartphones. Over 100 tablets were announced at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, and about half of them will run Android. With multiple new Android tablets launching each month compared to one new iPad from Apple each year, Google’s OS is bound to continue growing. RIM is also preparing to launch the BlackBerry PlayBook as its first tablet offering this year, which could sell as many as 6 million units during its first year of availability.

This is JUST the beginning! Apple is losing ground in the iPhone war and now iPad due to Google! Go GOOGLE Go!

For all you Apple fanboys… even if Verizon sells 10 million iPhones in 2011… they will be taking sales from AT&T… in fact they would only add about 4 to 5 million sales in the year… Not enough to kill off the power of Android!

33 million devices in Q4 for Google in 2 years is INSANE!

That is why Apple decided to combine iPad, iPhone and iPod sales into iOS… because iPhone alone wouldn’t do it! And IPad and iPod are NOT phones… whether or not you can call via Skype or whatever software… A phone is a phone… and those are not phones…

And oh ya… with Jobs on his last legs… Apple is in for a ride in 2012! :)

    Playbook sucks.
Android tablets are too overpriced and haven’t proven anything about OS itself.

a majority of all android tablets have comparable or better specs than the most expensive iPad while being competitively priced and in one year the android tablet market percentage managed to multiply itself more than 5 times. in short, android is about to replicate it’s domination of the smart phone business

Have had my XOOM since Friday of last week. And you know what I like it better eery day. I was out on the road today, had some time between meetings and hey the 3G soon to be lifted to 4g was nice to have, yea I could have used my phone but the big screen was nice to take care of a few things, Can get more done with a big screen. I think the Ipad 2 will be a nice upgrade from the current one, but what no one is talking about is the price of the apps on the Ipad, there are so many very good free or low expense apps on the market for Android. I do not see folks talk about that. Only that appple has so many more apps.

God give it up BGR “Finally” your apple fan boyism is really showing. These tablets have hardly hit the market yet and you use words like finally… iPad market share circa 2016 ~ 10% because that’s the % of people willing to overpay for technology.
