Virginia-based Verizon Wireless subscribers: No, we cannot hear you now

General

If the countless emails that have hit our inbox over the course of the past few hours are to be believed, Verizon Wireless is having some issues in Virginia. And by “some issues,” we mean the carrier’s voice and data services are out of commission across the entire state. Verizon Wireless’ tech support team has confirmed the problem to BGR, and it states that the cause of the massive outage is currently unknown. Verizon says it is investigating the matter just as fast as it can, of course, though the company has no idea when service will be restored.

UPDATE: We’re told that service has been restored for most subscribers as of shortly before 5:00 PM.

In virginia beach I lost connectivity from about 130 est until about 430 est… sadly this was posted after the Network came back up so the oblivious didn’t notice it.

Why is this even news? This happens with every carrier. The fact is Verizon doesnt own the equipment it uses, if it goes out, there are at least 3-5 other vendors that are responsible for replacing the equipment within a switch or tower. The Blackberry issue that someone mentioned a week or so ago, was also a Blackberry side problem as it only affected Blackberrys.

I have been using my droid Incredible all day today. I am NoVA and have had no problems.

Oh no. 30 minutes of downtime. Big deal. We all know that other carriers have had issues with this before and have taken days to restore service.

It may not be a big deal to you but it can be to other people.

Short on news lately, BGR? Network outages happen sometimes for all carriers, it’s hardly newsworthy in any respect, it’s usually resolved within hours. I really don’t know why it’s even on the front page…

This is why I carry at least two networks with me at all times.

Okay, okay -It was me. I pulled the plug just to bring everyone back to reality. Remember when there was no cell phone.

Some people are idiots, what does this have to do with the iPhone at this point? What a lot of you don’t seem to understand is that at&t was a $hitty network prior to the iPhone, and will continue to be a $shitty network even once tons of people have defected from at&t to verizon. Be disgruntled about your own network that you cannot make and/or receive calls on the majority of the time, on your own time. And leave us people that actually can make and/or receive calls the majority of the time alone. lol

I have not been able to get emails or access the internet since Friday the 21st. I can get calls and text and send calls and texts just fine. I’ve called Verizon 3 times. They somehow blaming it on a “Blackberry switch.” what does that mean? Doesn’t my service come from Verizon?

  • Fpbald

Anyone getting. Phone service in Blacksburg area?
