Froyo coming to Samsung Vibrant tomorrow

mobile

Hey, Samsung Vibrant users… are you sitting down? We have one word for you, and it just so happens to be the made-up compound word you’ve been waiting for: Froyo. That’s right — the Froyo update countless U.S. Galaxy S owners have been kicking and screaming about for ages is finally coming to at least one version of the popular handset. Oh, and it’s coming tomorrow, January 21st. PC Magazine got the goods from T-Mobile CMO Cole Brodman, who said the update will begin rolling out tomorrow. The update will roll out in waves, however, so don’t despair if it doesn’t hit your handset right away. After all, what’s a few more days following the torture you’ve already been through? Commence widespread complaints about the Vibrant not getting Gingerbread in 3… 2… 1…

    About time….

Better late than never… though. admittedly, I’m pretty much done with Samsung smartphones as this has taken far longer than is reasonable, and I’m beyond accepting lame-arsed excuses at this point.

      Pure… Naked Android – FTW!

Additionally: I feel strongly that these issues could easily be resolved by simply shipping all Android devices with pure Android, allowing the individual user to choose whether to install the manufacturer’s homescreen/software packages as part of the initial activation process. Those who opt to do so are informed (in writing) that their updates will be issued at the discretion of the handset manufacturer, whereas the others will be able to download/install updates as soon as Google releases them.

      Problem = Solved!

A launcher independent from the OS which could be switched to (like ADW or Launcher Pro) would make things much easier along with the stock launcher.

All this baked in Sense, motoblur, Rachel UI stuff really hampers things.

This is why i own a Nexus to be honest.

Why would manufactures do that. You have to distinguish your product from others. If all android phones came with stock they would basically be the same phones . Think about that 4 a minute. All the top of line smart phones that came out this year had your typical 1ghz processor 512 ram and 5 to 8 mp camera which is really no diff. in megapixel.if u released them with stock android, then you would have 6 to 8 phones in the store that are the practically the same other than size tttthan size

        than size.

It appears you missed the whole, “allowing the individual user to CHOOSE whether to install the manufacturer’s homescreen/software packages as part of the initial activation process” part of my post.

In Summary: It would be optional.

I’ll believe it when I see it!!

Is it a Kies or an OTA update?

    • Corematter

Hope it’s OTA. I never was ever successful in connecting my phone w/ Kies. Actually I’ve never been successful w/ connecting my PC with any samsung phone going back to my first dummy samsung phone
      SGH-P735. Samsung PC drivers s u c k b a l l s

newest form of kies doesn’t work with the vibrant. you have to find the previous version to use the vibrant in kies, but then when you do downgrade the version of it you can go to the store.

What about the rest of the Galaxy S phones?

  • John

Cna someone explain the differencw between Froyo, cupcake, gongerbread and Sense? Im getting confused. I thought this gingerbread was the latest and greatest, what is Froyo??

    • http://twitter.com/ninjordan Jordan Ratcliff

Gingerbread is Android 2.3. It’s the latest version of Android but so far it’s only been released on one phone (the Nexus S). Froyo is Android 2.2, which is what US Galaxy S owners have been begging for for months. Cupcake is Android 1.5. Sense is a skin for Android that HTC uses.

I wonder what the revision # is….There’s been leaked froyo builds out for the vibrant for a while….with the latest being KA6 that was leaked 2 days ago….Which I haven’t heard too many complaints about…..I do know the KA6 modem is the shiznit with no dropped data….gps seems decent too…Good job Tmo and Samsung for finally doing right by your customers….

only 7 months after froyo was released. wow, samsung fondles more balls than a golf caddy. as if people buy their korean chingchong crap

  • Wscaddie56

Congrats Vibrant owners!! Still waiting on the Fascinate but this can’t be viewed as bad news.

  • Nimrod

Sorry, but there has to be at least one anus (aka grammar Nazi) in the group.

Froyo is not a “made-up compound word”. It is a portmanteau word.

  • Havok69

I don’t get all the samsung hate. I’ve had froyo for a while on my captivate (rooted). I feel the pain for unrooted users but I will take samsung’s awesome hardware and screen over htc and moto anyday. The galaxy s phones are monsters and when rooted can handle games and other things much smoother and better than rest of the compettion.

  • SmellMyFinger

Ehhh yeah… do you guys EVER update your stories. I think it’s about time to post a retraction since it’s now March 14th and still no sign of any god damn Froyo release, nor any promise that one will be forthcoming in the next 5 years.

    Update your sheeit you morons.
