Apple Store vacation blackouts issued in preparation for Verizon iPhone 4 launch

Exclusive

We have just been informed that Apple has started sending out mandatory vacation blackout notices to Apple Stores, barring employees from taking vacation. We’re told that managers have blackout dates of February 5th through the 18th, and employees can’t go on vacation or have days off during that timeframe either due to the launch of Verizon Wireless’ iPhone 4. In addition, there will be extended hours during that time period to accomodate the anticipated increase in foot traffic. It sure looks like Apple and Verizon are preparing to move a million units first week…

Why do they think all the traffic will be at Apple stores and not Verizon stores? I smell an iPad 2 in this blackout. The rumor may have been BS but Feb 1st or 9th sounds good to me.

Yeah, that’s it. Less than a year after the first model launched, Apple decides to launch the iPad 2 during the same week it launches the Verizon iPhone, thereby making store traffic virtually unmanageable.

Looks like nothing gets by you, huh?

because apple stores have far more inventory than the telcos so all the traffic goes there

If I am buying anything Apple I would much rather get it from the Apple store. Same product, just feels better buying it there. Just sayin

You guys will post any news when it comes to Apple. Guys THERE ARE OTHER COMPANIES BESIDES APPLE OK. Christ on a cracker.

  • Eric

Actually, they will only be moving 999,999 iPhones. I am not buying one! haha

Why would they start the blackout on 2/5 if Apple won’t have Verizon iPhones in store until 2/10?

  • Dan

Not an exclusive. There were reports of vacation freezes before the actual Verizon iPhone announcement.

I think you guys may have been the last to know this worthless exclusive.

Same vacation policy as Foxconn & Lianjian being introduced at Apple. No point in treating their Chinese workers differently.

I just don’t see how this is going to be a huge event. It’s still the almost year old iphone on a different network. VZW has better phones than the iphone. All the iphone users on AT&T aren’t just gonna jump ship when they are in contracts already with hefty ETF’S. A minimal amount of VZW customers may be able to upgrade but the majority are already stuck in contracts also. I guess this will be a wait and see event but I think it is way over hyped.

    • Bozman

Remember that folks from sprint, t-mobile, etc.. might be jumping ships

    • Dario69

It is going to be huge. Thinking otherwise is just being ignorant. People are crazy enough to break their ATT agreements and pay their ETFs to just get away from ATT.

Me, I might just stick around with ATT and buy the iPhone4. My Captivate hasn’t shown any signs of network strain. And as much as I like my Cappy the iPhone4 looks better and better every day.

    • Hairy

How would you know that most people are in contracts…Maybe think that many people have been anticipating this damn I phone that they haven’t upgraded yet! Trust me go visit a vzw store and see how dead its been for a while. I think its going to be crazy busy

    Bionic FTW.

Jonathan, don’t you read BRG? You mentioned this blackout period a few weeks ago. Do you love Apple so much you need to regurgitate your old news? As much as I like Apple and Android you folks are really making me remember why it took me so long to get into Apple. This blind love fest attitude.

Yes you post news for other companies and phones but your real love is made obvious with Apple.

No one is forcing you to read this tech blog or this post…if you don’t like it, don’t read it…simple as that.

All I know is, I’ll be in line the morning of February 10th waiting for one!

  • Therightway

VZW iPhone? Yeah something old on a crappy network — I’ll pass I have more important things to spend my money on.

I woud fall down laughing if they only sold a few hundred in the first day. “Hey no line” “Oh, must not be launch day” “It says buy now” “Strange…whats going on here?”. I can see it now.

I am mind boggled by the sales numbers of smart phones. I just cant grasp that millions and millions of people are on smart phones. When I see the number of iPads sold I still wonder why I have only seen one in the wild and only several iPhones.

This kind of attitude toward employees are not bearable. If company is barring them then employees should ask for some vacation trips (provided by the company). As they are also the part of the huge Apple success…
