Good news for all those out there who are die-hard Nintendo fans. At a planned media event, the company officially announced its U.S. intentions for its 3DS portable gaming set. Launching on March 27th, the handset will have the same form-factor as the DSi and will be backwards compatible with both DS and DSi games. Are they serious! $249 in this economy, that’s a luxury I’m not willing to pay for.

Nah, there’s pics out there with it stacked on DSi and DSlite… about the same size really.

What!?! That’s more than the Wii! There’s no way I’m spending that kind of money on a portable game. I’ll stick with my psp and phone. 3D is NOT worth it. IMHO

3D games, 3D movies, 3D picture taking, pedometer, Virtual Console (like Wii) for all portable consoles, full browser, full media, 2GB SD card included (can take up to 32), fits all previous DS games, tons of interesting 3DS to 3DS and DS capabilities (even automatic), universal friend code similar to PSN or XBox live accounts (finally), 30plus games available within first 90days of launch (not including VC stuff)… this is far more than worth it. Do yourself a favor and try it once the interactive kiosks go live through out the nation.

Yeah, ok… the original PSP-1000 was $250 at launch too and over the years has gone down to what, $169?
You don’t want it, you don’t want it. Don’t whine about price when you’ve spent as much on the devices you already own.

I’m not sure the price is high, but the product just seems boring.

Just read my reply above. Also add that the graphics are better than PSP and many argue better than some of the best Wii games as its comparable to 360/ps3. (smaller screen allows this with technically weaker hardware)

      • Jri3102

i can understand as good as Wii, but lets be honest 3DS will never go HD and there is no way it will look as good as a PS3 and 360, but I am very excited about the lineup and potential of games.

      • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

SD vs HD is the reason I used the word “comparable” vs “matches”. However, 3DS games shown off so far do look as good as a typical PS360 game on an SD tv, which is remarkable good in its own right. Again, this is not saying the hardware is as powerful, its not, but the lower screen resolution allows far better graphical technology to be utilized on a far smaller CPU/GPU combination.

    Great…

It launches on my wife and I’s 7th year anniversary…anybody have any suggestions on how to dismiss your lady for a handheld?

    Can’t wait…

iPod touch at $209 with 99 cent apps is a great value proposition as compared to $249 with $34.99 games.

    • Hate, Y U No Love?

Angry Birds VS 3D Legend of Zelda.

Its like saying a Kia Sorrento is a great value proposition as compared to a Ford Mustang GT.

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

yeah and the games, controls, and overall experiences are so comparable…..

    • BoyRetardedReport

does iPod touch have buttons? It is a small mini-game machine while the DS is for ACTUAL story mode games that the iPod touch couldn’t even HANDLE

  • BoyRetardedReport

Looks good with FINALLY a joystick! Man do I hate using a D-Pad on handhelds! Too big though, and why would I need 3D? Just gonna stay with the DSi

  • dnaL0R
