Bloomberg: PSP2 coming January 27th; Xperia Play in February

Gaming

According to Bloomberg, citing “two people familiar with the matter,” Sony and Sony Ericsson will be releasing the PSP2 and Xperia Play smartphone in January and February respectively. The publication writes that the updated iteration of the company’s popular mobile gaming console will be released on January 27th; the company will also “outline a strategy to use its networked entertainment services to share games, movies and music among handheld products, TVs and other devices.” The article goes on to note that the Xperia Play handset, which has been anything but a secret, should get unveiled in February at Mobile World Congress. Unsurprisingly, Sony declined to comment on the report when contacted by Bloomberg.Read

The Bloomberg article says that the devices will be unveiled on those dates, not released.

Glad to see Sony making an attempt to keep their products at the forefront. I hope for the user’s sakes they have an App store to go with it. Not a mobile game player per se but their games are rather expensive in the physical form right?

I think they’re announcing it but not releasing it on the 27th

This better not be the sprint announcement in feb. But with David Blaine, it might.

Im sure this thing will be a powerhouse but the look is ugly. Sony kills with the home platform but somehow Nintendo keeps the edge in the mobile department. This new DS 3D will be interesting to say the least but if Sony is competitive with pricing & comes with a better plan for movies than UMD’s they can possibly gain some market

LOL NO WAY IN HELL! Sony is the worst at keeping secrets. I can believe the experia play will launch soon as its full details are known. But the psp2 has had no leaks beyond Sony having cooling issues. E3 will be when Sony officially releases details on a psp2. They must be confusing the two different devices as if they are one and the same.

I have not had a cell phone since 2009, but this integration with a possible playstation like platform with liscensed playstation games, it’s a heck of a lot better than bejeweled! I will be one of the trolls to get one as soon as it’s available.

Curious to see how the PSP2 turns out and how ‘next gen’ its truly going to be. Sony about beat that PSP to death, its time for a new handheld console altogether.

Omg two analog sticks! I can get my FPS on anywhere, online. I don’t know why Microsoft didn’t make a handheld with two analog sticks. I always wondered why the first PSP didn’t have two sticks. But at any rate, YAY!
