AT&T prepping new text message plans to launch next week?

mobile

According to a report filed by GearLive, AT&T is preparing to update its text messaging offerings with the changes taking effect next week. The changes themselves are pretty straight forward. In a two for one swap, Ma’ Bell will be discontinuing its $5 per month, 200 message and $15 per month, 1,500 message plans replacing them with a $10 per month 1,000 message offering. The $20 per month, unlimited messaging plan will be left untouched. Those who currently subscribe to one of plans being discontinued will be allowed to keep the feature until their next change of service. What do you think? Is this move going to save or cost you money?

Just another way to increase fees by making it look good to you BUT it actually cost the carrier nothing or next to nothing for sending texts.

Google Voice ftw – $0 for Text messaging

Will save me 60 bucks a year as well. I thought that data and text would get cheaper as technology got better. US cell is where its at, if only national carriers adopted their model. I am waiting for that day.

Google Voice free texting. Anybody paying for texts with a smartphone is a fool.

Boost Mobile, here I come. Your service may not be all that good but you’ll save me a aloooot of money with your Shrinkage plan. I think AT&T and Verizon are now trying to compete on who’s the most expensive carrier with the most ass raping charges and plans.

Yet another back hand pimp slap!! Free with data!!!

If all the people bitching about price owned a business I’m thinking they would all go under because they would make no $$$. So if texting should be free and according to others data should be unlimited and cost almost nothing, and voice being over priced, how in the hell are these companies to make any money? How do they expand and invest in their networks? If you look at the carriers that are dirt cheap with “all you can eat” plans, most if not all do not have their own networks and are way behind in getting the latest phones. The others like TMO will do anything to get people to sign on being they are 20 million customers behind Sprint who is 40 million behind VZ and Att. The dream of unlimited everything for $40 to $50 a month in today’s market is just that a dream. I would bet if Sprint and Tmo were closer in customer count to Vz and Att they would be charging the same amount. Just look back when their prices dropped, it was right about the time when they started getting their asses kicked by #1 and #2. I’m sure prices will drop in the future but until these new 4G and 4.5G (LTE+) networks get built, I’m thinking prices will stay about the same. As more data fills Tmo and Sprint, either prices will rise, ( as Sprint just did) throttling or caps will be put in place. They just can afford people using 10 gigs and up per month ( why that much still blows me away). It’s just not smart business if they want to last.
If you spend between 8 and 9 billion just on air space (which is running out) and billions more each year to expand and for maintenance, you have to charge to make a profit. I know the question how much is enough will be asked, you will answer it yourself the next time your carrier of choice is years behind the ones who are making enough money to stay ahead.
By the way I do not work for either of the carriers and I chose to have a smartphone with unlimited data and text. Key word being CHOSE.

Save me money. I pay $5 for 200 text messages and rarely use them, so when I discontinue my text message plan, it will save me money.

so does this constitute a change in the contract allowing people to cancel their att contracts with having to pay their ETF?

Obviously you all never went to business school or you forgot. EVERY business is in business to make money. Why do you think you should get things for free? Get real.

Iphones have service issues all together and always have AT&T or not. I expect Verzion customers to have reception issues with their Iphones just as much as AT&T customers have
