T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant 4G rears its head, Android 2.3 in tow [Updated]

Exclusive

We’ve heard rumors about the existence of the Samsung Vibrant 4G, but now we have crystal clear proof. One of our trusted ninjas has sent us the above image that shows off Sammy’s next generation Vibrant handset, complete with front-facing camera, and a bonus surprise… Android 2.3. Our source, who said they had substantial hands-on time with the device, described it as “smooth” and “stupid fast.” The device will pack a 21Mbps HSPA+ radio to take advantage of T-Mo’s self-proclaimed 4G network along with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display. You may notice that the device pictured above is not skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Unfortunately, we hear the good people at Sammy are working on an Android 2.3 compatible version of the interface as we speak… bollocks. Android 2.3 is, however, great news for T-Mobile users considering this device. Hit the jump for a higher resolution image and let us know what you think!

UPDATE: The legitimacy of this image has come under quite a bit of scrutiny. A few things we wanted to add: this source has — in the past — demonstrated access to unreleased Samsung hardware, this source is standing by the image and will try and get additional images to substantiate, and the source doesn’t, to our knowledge, have any impetus to lie. That being said: take the above image with a grain of salt, as it could be — as others have pointed out — a Vibrant with a camera-mod and Android skin installed.

Too bad it’s getting touchwiz… Makes me feel good about my Nexus S however :-)

I bought the Samsung Galaxy GT9000 the phone above and loved it until it dropped form a height of only one foot out of the side pocket of the car door and the screen cracked all the way across, taking it to the repair shop the guy there had four others that had done the same all badly shattered and all after the phone had only been on the market for a few weeks here in Australia. Love the phone but not the strength of the screen its really poor and the cannot replace the glass either its double glazed to the display so after $169.00 Aust and a cover I now take extra care in handling it as the screens are way too flimsy.

BTW the above phone is just a Galaxy S or GT9000 its been on the market here in OZ since September 2010 that is NOT a new phone, the Galaxy facia is identical with the two camera’s for video confrencing and the GUI is identical to the first release of the Galaxy here with Android 2.1 which has now been upgraded two months back for all users to the latest Android OS here in OZ. Obviously the T-Mobile printing is just specific to that Market like Optus/ Telstra/ Vodafone and 1000 other providers here.

Samsung phones have always cheaply made to me. They lack durability and feel like cheap children toys and not a high smartphone. The Touchwiz crap they put on there doesn’t look like something I’d want to hve for a 2yr contract. Expensive phone very low end software/hardware..

It’s fake. The squares on the Nexus S LWP are different sizes, in this one they are all the same.

This looks like a Vibrant with a FFC mod running Nero rom.

This is just a standard Vibrant with FFC Mod and Gingerbread rom. New Vibrant will ship with Froyo 2.2 front facing camera and 4g capabilities. I switched to mytouch 4g after having vibrant for 3 months, screen color is nice vibrant but kinda low res you can see pixels also we will most likely never see froyo official update through Tmobile but still phone is cool kinda laggy with touchwiz but I love the overall design and feel. I would consider the vibrant 4g if battery life is good still nexus s is the way to go if you want super amoled screen with ffc.
