3D iPod touch in development according to rumor [video]

At some point, Apple is likely to make a loud entry into the growing 3D space, which is expected to become more crowded than ever in 2011. According to a new rumor Monday morning, the company’s entry make take place sooner than expected. Japanese enthusiast blog Kanteidan Blog claims Apple is ready to start building small 3D displays that may be included in the next-generation iPod touch. The displays would not need special glasses to operate, and would instead rely on glasses-free 3D technologies like motion and head tracking in order to create a 3D effect. Kanteidan Blog speculates that gaming will be a major focus for the upcoming 3D technology making its way to the iPod touch. If true, the news could spell trouble for Nintendo, which is expected to announce the U.S. launch of its Nintendo 3DS portable gaming console later this week. Apple is known to have been exploring 3D technology for quite some time, and the company owns several patents that cover 3D. No real evidence suggests that Apple is ready to implement 3D into its upcoming devices, however. Hit the break for a video showing what the experience might look like on the iPod touch.

        Your irony is showing. I’m all about options but we are talking standards here. Manufacturers and Hollywood are trying to force a new standard that isn’t practical yet. HD was pushed hard and for a good reason. 3D is still far from good implementation, even the glassesless kind. And most people don’t like 3D studies have shown. When HD was pushed, people salivated over it. 3D is a money grabbing gimmick

      i agree….. 3d is boring. was cool at drive-ins in the 50′s. but guess what….. this isnt the 50′s. people who are entertained by 3D are most likely simpletons. the day i spend money to have to sit there wearing ridiculous looking glasses will be the day my ass starts sh*tting $100′s.

    NO THANKS! I’ll take my Samsung DROID Galaxy PMP any day. crApple has no idea what the end users want. They have the worst app store and the worst support. Get DROID. It’s so much easier. Just search for a couple hours/days for a forum where a bunch of teens…err DROID experts can give you some great disjointed instructions on how to change ROMS or fix your buggy version of DROID OS. DROID makes it so easy and OPEN.

      AppleCare? Hah, what a joke! You call them and you have to call 10 different companies to simply learn how to delete an icon on your iPhone. A friend of mine called AppleCare for some issues with his MacBook Air and they helped him, so I asked my friend “What did they want in return” (I have come to expect Apple to screw things up) and he said “my serial number” and I said AHAH!!!! I knew it! The bastards wanted his SERIAL NUMBER! I hate Apple.

        I am a Goofan (aka Apple Hater) which means I need things to be ultra complex to be happy! That’s why we have the highest intellects. Apple stuff is TOO simple and thus we, Goofans (aka Apple Haters), get confuse and that’s one of the reasons we hate Apple. Because they confuse us! We expect/need complex, we get simple! Argh!     I actually think this is bad idea for touch. One big reason is Nintendo’s comments regarding why the touch (bottom) screen on the new 3DS is not 3D.

    Consider playing a game or interacting with anything that has a 3D visual but is actually on a 2D physical screen. It just won’t feel natural. Plus, Nintendo mentioned that the natural smudges/oil from fingers greatly reduce the 3D effect.

      No HEADTRACKING!! 3ds just does this with classic 3D, not virtual 3D, that everyone can see, including people with seeing issues, and those who arent using 3D glasses.

    Wow. 1) That was being done in WiMo 6.5 using the accelerometers to affect viewing position (and rendering accordingly) 2) You wouldn’t see the effect that way in a video if it were REAL stereoscopy. You WOULD see double. RUMOR.

    Wtf are you kidding me? trouble for Nintendo sounds like a fan boy wrote this. Apple will never sell as much I phone as Nintendo sold the dsi in one yr it will take Apple 5 yrs to sell as much ipads, iPhone and ipods to caught up to Nintendos 20million plus dsi’s and 135 mil ds/ds lights just in 2010. And all those sh#$y iPhone games will never compare what Nintendo has and the 3ds is just going take the seat at the tops.     If I could only meet jobs once. Slap fire out this freaking retarded this would only cause nothing but problems for developers because I you look at Nintendo’s development team they have nothing be the best. Why Apple thinks there a gaming handle I have no freaking idea. This is just the start with handle gaming Nintendo is going to be the thing to have with every freaking game development team backing it 150% of the way. You really think a mother would say what should I get my son/daughter a $400 Apple 3d iPod that comes with nothing in the box but a usb cable and some shitty ass head phones or the company that’s never let you downs Nintendo 3DS gaming console that has the Wii browser that includes flash lmao on that one and plays music and and watches videos according to ign in UK. Along with over 50,000 games that will never die. Put it this way if the 3DS only sold Mario games the would still own Apple buy 80% more sales Alone in the US. Apples gaming market has about 20-30 games that are ok and I’m not a Nintendo fanboy I’m just a realist. And last but not least 3ds is just the start wait till the psp 2 shows its face with I still don’t believe it but its true psp 3 like graphics with 3d and touch screen and a better gaming network that Apple will ever have. And I’m going to stop there last thing I want to say I would love to see these bullsh#% 3D patients that Apple owns that TV and Sony doesn’t have. Just die already Jobs really hurry up
