Verizon Wireless’ 2011 LTE city roll out leaked? [Updated]

General

Waiting for Verizon Wireless to light up 4G LTE in your hood? Droid-life has got a hold of what they are reporting to be some of the next cities Verizon looks to be launching 4G service. At the end of 2011, we should see at least 140 markets be blanketed with LTE coverage, and by 2013, Verizon is aiming to have at least 2/3 of the country covered. Hit the break for some of the rumored 2011 markets.

Update: Sorry, folks. This slipped by me — it’s confirmed by Verizon.

Verizon – you guys are retards. You bring LTE lovin’ to Centralia WA – all 14,000 residents, but overlook the 1.3 million in the Spokane WA-CDA Idaho metro area. Totally makes sense to skip by the second largest city in WA state to little ol Centralia. I am certain you will make that revenue quickly. Did I mention that in our area we have almost three times as residents as the entire state of Wyoming?
Thanks! Guess maybe I am not switching from at&t this year like I thought I was going to – I will keep my 4.8 mbps…

This isn’t all of them. Shreveport, LA Birmingham, AL Jackson, MS and a bunch of other are getting it too.

    Strange group of cities

People shouldn’t even compare TMO network speeds to that of VZ. Try adding 60 million more subscribers, then we’ll see what type of speeds TMO can achieve.

    • GinaDee

Do you have 60 million VZW subs in your town? Didn’t think so.

Users are spread across the network nationwide. Stop exaggerating.

Truth is: T-Mobile actually is at a disadvantage right now in that their HSPA + 4G is backwards compatible with all HSPA and UMTS devices already active

T-Mobile subs are concentrated more in metro areas whereas Verizon’s customers are found in many more small cities and towns.

Verizon has a clean network with nobody on it. I guarantee you once all those 4G Droid’s start clogging up those airwaves you guys will be in for a sharp drop in download speeds.

        Thanks for arguing my point.

VZ customers out number TMO customers, don’t matter what State or City you live in. They are in “many more” small cities and towns, plus in “many more” very large cities and very large towns. Unlike TMO customers who suffer in small cities and towns VZ customers don’t share the same faith in “metro areas”. Yes, VZ customers are everywhere!

What you say is a disadvantage to TMO isn’t such a disadvantage to VZ, which also uses its “backwards compatible” CDMA network!

Nobody on VZ’s network! LOL! Not sure what rock you’ve been under, and why you’re contradicting your own point by saying 4G will hurt VZ. If what you believe is to be true then future 4G devices won’t do a damn thing to VZ’s network. Maybe you should petition TMO to build a bigger network so you too can enjoy a “clean network with nobody on it”!

VZ customers may outnumber TMO customers, but VZ also has some other “outs” that aren’t so good. They have some outrageous pricing for plans and overages, and some out-of-this-world roaming charges…and that’s just inside the USA…if you travel or actually go “out” of the US…good luck.

  • hardwired

I find it mildly amusing that they’re not putting any towers in New Jersey, since that is where VZ is headquartered.

  • Blahblah

you people are stupid, this has already exisiting lte! network.

      ?

  • Mafiosoraw

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MIL Town first 4G in Wisconsin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Good list (since my town is in there), but not offering an unlimited LTE data plan is a deal-breaker for me.

    • Anonymous

You might want to wait until the plans are announced to declare it a deal breaker…

      • twest

This is Verizon we’re talking about here….knowing their price points (gouging) and other shenanigans…it’ll be a deal breaker.

      • Anonymous

Well since their 4G data card/usb plans are actually cheaper than their 3G
countetparts…so again, judgement should be reserved.

  • Steve Hillshire

Doesn’t look like it will be long before Verizon’s 4G network is in more places than AT&T’s struggling 3G network.

  • CoolGuy

Yyyyyyeeeeaaaaahhhh!!!!!!! Mississippi’s getting 4G!!!!!! Yeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh no more slavery!!!!!!!!!!! I mean slow speeds!! Yeah.

After having seen this map and noted that I live in one of the two vast areas of Oklahoma that Verizon does not cover at all yet are completely surrounded by full coverage, I went to the Verizon store yesterday in Oklahoma City and asked about it. Turns out that Verizon has no plans to increase coverage till at least 2013. Those big blank areas are completely covered by other CDMA carriers right now, but Verizon cannot roam on these other carriers for some wild unknown reason.

Nowhere in Oregon? What the hell vzw? Oh well.

    • vboy4life
