Spotify finally making headway in journey to U.S., report claims

General

Spotify, the popular European streaming music service provider, is finally nearing a deal in the U.S., the New York Post reports. Following more than a year of negotiations with U.S. record labels, Spotify is said to be close to a deal with Sony and has “gained the support” of another label, according to The Post’s sources. Spotify launched in Europe in 2008, offering unlimited streaming music on demand. In its current state, Spotify offers free ad-supported access to users, as well as two paid premium plans — an ad-free £4.99 plan, and a £9.99 plan that allows streaming to mobile devices and station caching for off-line playback. The company has been fighting to offer its service in the U.S. for over a year but has been met with opposition from record labels, which are still uneasy with certain subscription models. Spotify would not confirm The Post’s report.

OK, come clean Europe. Spotify doesn’t really exist, does it? It’s just one big hoax on the US to make up for all the times we release a service or product that you guys can’t get. Well I’m on to you! I no longer believe this company exists or their so-called service will ever appear.
(Please, no replies about how you live in Europe and have it and it’s the greatest thing since pizza. Those are all part of the global scam!)

I’m glad I’m not the only one to realize the truth. Really, Europe? You expect me to believe that you got all the music companies to work together and accept a reasonable amount of money in return for an infinite good?

I’d like to introduce you to the real world, where reasonable shit like that does not happen. What does happen in a little place I like to call reality land is that you get sued for millions of dollars for sharing some songs. The sooner you come clean about this lie, the sooner we can all get past it.

Meet Rhapsody and Napster. Besides the free ad-supported version, they’re almost identical to Spotify, and they’ve existed for years.

Spotify is pure streaming. Its closest U.S. parallels are Last.FM and Pandora. They don’t quite match up.

Other than that, hush! The internet is all about irrational hyperbole. Don’t bring your good sense to this crazy party.

Not a European conspiracy Mojo. It’s the real deal. Ask anyone under 40 in the UK and they’ll confirm Spotify’s popularity.

A lot of American’s still like to “own,” everything they pay for so the concept of paying a monthly subscription fee just to listen to music online still makes a few users uneasy. Lots of people use Pandora but most opt for the free version.

I had a geek at work get me a subscription to Spotify using a proxy. But they soon caught on to my fake English address and shut me down. Then he did it for me again and suddenly I was “French.” Again they found out and shut me out. I got tired of the workarounds so I gave up.

I’m really excited about the concept of streaming any song I want using my mobile data connection on my Android device with Spotify. The service is that good. Slacker and Pandora don’t compare on scale.
