Android 2.3 getting music synchronization service?

General

Here’s an interesting find. Blog GizmoFusion has been sent an image of Android 2.3, Gingerbread, displaying an interesting option, “Sync Music.” The option is visible in the Google Account options, indicating that the Big G may have some type of music synchronization service, that will be linked to your Gmail account, in the works. While it isn’t all that hard to get music files onto an Android handset, the process certainly could use some streamlining — cloud-based services are always a bonus. Hopefully, Google will clue the Android-loving world in on what they’re working on soon, but until then… it’s anyones guess.

Google I/O conference but it will be in beta for another year though.

Is this the feature they promised “later in the year” at last year’s IO conference? I thought the boys and girls at Google were all geniuses how come it’s taken so long?

Yes Androind is growing!! I think Android it’s gone to be the OS #1 in 2011

Yes that feature gets added to your sync list when you install the leaked version of the new music player (the one with the gold speaker icon). I was wondering why my battery would die really quick. Until I starting digging around and found that it was trying to sync music.

Does the leaked music player also do podcasts? It might be nice to have that integrated into the app since they both use the bluetooth audio controls.

It doesn’t seem to play podcasts. When I try to go to it from Google reader to play them it doesn’t respond. Then again. It is a beta leak.

    This sounds pretty interesting.

Blackberry 6 has wireless music sync from day one but that’s so 2008 right?

    • Booboolala2000

This is to the cloud and it pulls from your computer all music. Legal or illegal. And syncs with all devices. Laptop, phone and clowd.

Lmao. Seriously? Bb6 is the equivalent of winmo 6.5 soon they’ll dump bbos all together for qnx

Google needs to upgrade the music player before adding all this new stuff. I mean, we still don’t have an equalizer for the stock Android music player in 2011!!!! Shame on Google for this. The stock player isn’t bad, but I have to give this feature to iPhone. The stock Android player doesn’t allow you to leave your mp3 player behind and use only your phone like iPhone users can do. You still need a dedicated mp3 player with Android. Users have been asking for EQ for years and every update we get nothing.

I think the stock music player sucks. iPhone is lightyears ahead. I think WP7 is probably the best of all three, though. If either Google or Apple get a ZunePass alternative, I’m completely sold.

i totally agree. why doesn’t google just copy the ipod playback interface? it’s a million times better than android. this is android’s biggest flaw, in my opinion.

      • Youngjboy

I agree, as of right now I have to carry my Zune HD and my Droid 1, with the Zune fulfilling most music duties.

      • zps

and windows phone 7′s music player is far better. it’s baffling why android’s is so bad.

Hopefully this is more than just cloud music storage – but maybe something like the ZunePass. Seems like it would be, given that Google is partnering with record companies – at least I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere.
