HP exec alludes to webOS tablet unveiling at February 9th event [video]

Tablets

Early next month, HP will host a press event that will focus on the webOS mobile operating system it now manages thanks to the Palm acquisition. While the event could cover anything from strategy to devices, some product-related goodies are likely a safe bet. After all, HP is due to release a host of devices this year, so it better start announcing them soon. Thanks to some loose lips, it now looks like a webOS tablet announcement is all but confirmed. Todd Bradley, EVP of HP’s Personal Devices Group, basically told CNBC in an interview that HP’s first iPad competitor will be revealed at the event next month. When asked questions regarding how future HP tablets might differentiate themselves from the iPad, Bradley responded, “you and I will talk about that on the 9th.” We read you loud and clear, Todd. Hit the break for a video of the interview with CNBC.

Guys PLEASE don’t tease with mock up pictures lmao . . . you just just made my heart skip a beat…. I was soooo close to going WebOS after my BlackJack2 (WinMo) . . . but I hopped all over android (Hero, now EVO) . . . but I’m still pulling for WebOs

EVOOOO is the best smartphone out there. Cancelled Sprint because of their outsourced customer dis-service call centers in Malaysia/Indonesia/Santo Domingo, etc; but, had the EVOOOO for 5 months and never had one single issue with the phone. Stayed on Verizon, now with Droid X; don’t really like Droid X (or, Motorola). Too many bugs in the UI; not as smooth or efficient as HTC.

It’s a shame HP has become so misguided with this WebOS fascination; they may as well put Android 1.5 on the darn tablets. Unlike the vast majority of HP critics, I like their hardware. People who have claimed technical problems with HP products, for the most part, just don’t know ‘wtf’ they’re doing.

    • WebOS is #1

WebOS is hands down the best Mobile OS. Only reason Palm failed to catch on was because of the hardware, the software always had great reviews especially for a 1st gen OS.

WebOS 2.xx on new top of the line hardware will be sexy!

Anyone who knows how to use WebOS knows that it blows all other OS’ out the water…
-The Gesture Area off the screen is genius.. no need for home buttons, back buttons, etc.. all you need is a specific swipe to do everything..
-The Card multitasking is brilliant and people continue to try to rip it off (ie. BlackBerry’s tablet)

The only thing it lacks is a multitude of useless apps.. as long as they get the top 100 or so popular apps, they will be set

Feb 9? A day before the Verizon iPhone launch? That’s unfortunate. Whatever they have to say will probably get drowned out by the coverage of the Verizon event.

webOS just seems like the perfect tablet OS. It just makes sense.

You are confusing a user interface with an OS.

Just like HP when they paid $2 =BILLION= for webOS.

Yet another Linux platform that will run Qt apps. Good news for Symbian, Meego, and any developers interested in open software.

Qt? What are you talking about? The OS is called WebOS. If you want to write apps for WebOS you need to do it with JavaScript.
