MCV: Sony’s PSP 2 being announced January 27th in Japan

Gaming

According to “trade sources” being cited by blog MCV, Sony will announce the update to its PSP gaming system — the PSP 2 — on January 27th in Tokyo, Japan. The report claims that, “Publishers were informed late last year of the plans, with some of Sony’s biggest parties already at work on titles for the high-specced [sic] device.” No information was provided that would indicate what exactly those new specs may be.

The real question is what version of Android will the psp 2 run? My toaster is stuck on 2.1. Its the last Samsung toaster I ever purchase.

If Playstation consoles begin to utilize Android as their backbone, it will be kept up to date as Sony is far better at updating their firmware. Additionally, it will also have a far better internet experience as the PS3′s browser is horrible.

I love how the browser freezes the whole system when watching video half the time.. Please have Opera make you a browser like Nintendo did…

You mean like how the Xperia X10 got Android 2.3? Wait a minute, it never happened.

Meh… 3DS is still going to trounce it. Already has the biggest initial offering of any gaming system in history.

Guess it really doesn’t matter to me as I have never owned a portable aside from a month with the DSlite during a work trip.

I’ll just stick to my PS3Wii combo at home and android on the road. Granted for mah kids I’ll probably get the 3DS. (x2)

EDIT: I do hope that’s just a mock-up as its really ugly button layout.

  • Michaelkerti307

    I’ll stick to the 3DS.

      You’re 11 I suppose. No adult would choose a 3ds over a psp.

      • Ericoazevedo

Your obviously a child that thinks he is an adult if you really think that’s true =

Go play some nintendogs or my little pony.

      • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

Why not? DS line has by far the best game lineup for anyone of any age. Add to that the full multimedia and 3D gaming/movie watching aspect of the 3DS and BAM! I can’t see why you’d want to jump into another game-less PSP device.

Some people are obsessed with specs no matter what….but I agree. DS series rules. Its unAmerican to not like Mario and the many varitions of Mario Kart.

      • Jedi

Realy? All of the games are kiddie games. How are they for ‘any age’?

      • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

Yeah obviously we know who the kid is. Just because a game isn’t a bloody
swearing shooter doesn’t mean its kiddie.

So this isn’t the new Barnes and Noble Nook?

when is xbox going mobile besides the on the phone…PSPs are getting lame now, they were hot in 2004.

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

They won’t. MS only entered the home console business because Sony was threatening home PC/media center business. MS wanted to be sure MS was going to continue to be a major player as TVs begin to take over the PC role (when connected to the right device).

However, phones are far more PC oriented and they will continue to push that market to try and match/beat iPhhone/Android.

blah, i don’t wanna play angry birds… i personally would like a mobile xbox-esque device, regardless of what Microsoft was and is trying to be a major player in.

    • i have an iphone on verizon

Microsoft is working on a portable xbox… but their taking a slower approach since its the first time for them to make a handheld. Rumor from a friend that works at microsoft says they want the power of a 360 in the palm of your hands so we shall see

    Does it make phone calls?

    • http://www.vgchartz.com SuperChunk

No, its not a phone. PSP2 is a gaming console. You might have this confused with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play that is a phone with Playstation based controls and gaming capabilities.

      • Anonymous

        I was joking.

  • Anonymous

Not to excited about this announcement because most mobile phones already or will very soon outperform whatever Sony is going to announce.

  • Robvandammmm

Why not just scrap this and make the xperia a powerful phone with these specs, have android on it, put it on a carrier and have them subsidize it, and give it like a 30-60 gig hard drive to download games from android/playstation store? Make it have 2 memory slots, 1 for an SD card to keep more stuff, and another for special DS-size cardtridges for when you want to actually buy games.

  • Adrian

3DS are lame with nintendos 1992 graphics lol plz don’t compare DS to PSP!

  • Big Papi

I gave my son my old PSP, and have been waiting for a next gen for ages…now…whoever made that mock up should be banned from all future mock ups…that is not something I would ever consider buying.

And yes, a 3DS may be in my future…Nintendo has been porting classics on their current system…and nostalgia is awesome, thus…the DS is awesome.

Now if ONLY Sega will get on the ball and remake their classics dammit…I want to play Miracle Warriors in 2011
