Documents detailing Samsung Vibrant 4G leak; HSPA+, front-facing camera

mobile

The gang from TMoNews has managed to acquire several documents detailing what the next iteration of T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant — the Vibrant 4G — will entail. The report notes that the device will have a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 1GHz processor, 1GB of internal storage (16GB micro-SD card included), 5 megapixel camera without a flash, front-facing camera, and 1650mAh battery. The Vibrant 4G will earn the latter half of its name by wielding a 21Mbps HSPA+ radio. According to the intel, the device will run Google’s Android 2.2 operating system, not the more current Android 2.3. The addition of a front-facing camera and high-speed HSPA+ radio are nice incremental upgrades, although we’re not sure how this handset will look after Sammy announces the successor to the Galaxy S next month at Mobile World Congress. Hit the read link to see the full slide-deck. If you’re a current Vibrant owner, drop us a comment… we want to know what you think.

Still no flash, WTF!!! Who the hell gave the ok at t mobile to go with this phone? Wanted to trade up my G2 but no thanks. Plus it will never see an android update ever because its samsung.

It does seem like a strange thing to leave off a phone these days. Even a lot of feature phones w/ cameras have a flash now.

  • Ninja

Why would Samsung continue to push phones out w/o a camera flash?

    • douche

i don’t care about no dam flash i just want my 2.2

  • StevenGlansburg

If you own the original Vibrant and want an OS update Samsung is finally giving you the choice to get that update…..by dropping another 500+ on another phone.

Samsung seriously needs to stop pushing out phones unless they plan on supporting them with regular updates… Why would you push out essentially the same phone with scant few features added and the update on it that should have already been seen on the original.

Sorry Samsung, you are yet another company that (aside from My Nexus S) I will never buy another product from unless you change your ways. It is apparent that you only wish to sell bastardized products so you can lay claim to saturating the market with your products. Unfortunately for you – you’re alienating your customers from your business by doing so.

T-Mobile is already meeting consistent speeds with HSPA+(14.4 devices), HSPA+ 21 devices will consistently PASS consistent Verizon LTE speeds and when T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42 launches second half of the year they will absolutely blow their speeds away by a large margin.

Yes, but what does TMo’s “4G” coverage map look like?

      • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

oh as opposed to Verizon’s “4G” coverage?? still beats them there as well.

  • Matt

Not really sure why anyone is surprised..This is how Samsung does things. They don’t support their products they just release new ones with fixes and updates. All you have to do is buy a new phone.

This is classic Samsung though. It happened with the Moment/Epic on Sprint, the Behold II on T-Mobile and now this. As beautiful as their screens are, they never update their phones’ software and want people to turn around and buy new ones in 3-6 months.

  • KCRic

Damn samsung. They just need to stick to TV’s. They make phones with no LED flash, the slowest file system known, no flash 10.1, no microSD, no updates, and to top it all off – 2.2. By the time this comes out 2.3 will be well past it’s release date and yet they go with 2.2. Oh and where’s that dual core? Oh that’s right we forgot – you’re the apple of android.

    WTF samsung!!

TMo putting all their Eggs into this…just for Sprint & VZW to end up with the Galaxy S sucessor this Summer…..Well at least the EPIC has flash.

The reason tmobile knows it can get away with its shitty rebranding of HSPA+ is because sites like BGR and Engadget just accept that they’re rebranding it.

    HSPA+ is not 4G zomg.

    • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

HSPA+ is as much 4G as Verizon and Sprint’s current 4G. You must be ignorant with all that we know at this point.

I don’t care what they call it, I’m getting over 5.5mb on the DL and a very stable 1.5 on the UL. Call it what you want, I just call it fast. T-Mobile is fast and has the best plans out of all carriers. FACT. My Nexus One is smoking it is so fast. Just bought the MyTouch 4G, that is even faster.
      THANK YOU T-MOBILE
PS Please get the TEGRA POWERED DEVICE..Long time customer who will do anything for one.

Doesn’t matter if it has froyo, whipped cream pie, or key lime froth, it’s still Samsung, so no reliable updates, and still on a network with skimpy coverage.

  • Sean76

Beat it Samsung….my Fascinate is the last product I will purchase from you! You may have awesome screens, but your update time table is just straight out stupid! 2.2 was released to the Evo in July, and to the Moto x in Sept. Are you kidding me that my Fascinate is still on 2.1, without an update in site!? Back to Moto, HTC, or LG for me!

Another Samsung Android device released behind the curve. This has all happened before and will happen again.

When I first decided to go with T-Mobile, I went back and forth for a while on which phone to get. I eventually decided on getting a Vibrant. I was against it at first, because of the whole Behold II thing, but I figured since its part of the Galaxy S line, they wouldn’t leave it behind. Boy was I wrong…

I know that I can (and I have) rooted and installed custom roms to get 2.2, but I dont think it’s fair that I HAVE to in order to get features that basically the same phone already has in Europe. Besides, the Vibrant didnt even get fully working 2.2 roms until the past few months. I’m disappointed in Samsung, and I guess T-Mobile as well.

The Vibrant was the first and last samsung phone I will buy. I wish I had waited a month to get a G2 instead.

You guys are a bunch of pussies

  • Pencapchew

Its really sad to see a bunch of grown men bitch about how its sooooooo bad that a phone doesnt get updates so they can view internet porn faster and how some manufacturers suck cause they dont get updates out before new model comes out, gess what?? its a progressive and fast paced market and its not easy to make updates for tens of thousends of users DEAL WITH IT. Oh and for those that bitch about ” I shouldnt have to root my phone to run 2.2 ” YOU DONT HAVE TO ASSHOLE!!! just work with what you go, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that most people only want updates just to able to say ” i have the latest ”
So if you want the latest so bad and want to be able to brag how your shit is better then your buddies then sit down, root it and then brag how you have accomplished something

  • zps

why doesn’t samsung imbed the 16gb and allow +32 of expansion? ugh.

  • datguy

at this point all original vibrant owners will have to wait till this new vibrant comes out, then they will release the update for the original vibrant and then we’ll get a boost of hspa+. Yeah i’m still with everyone that this will be the last samsung phone i get.

  • JohnnyX

I just want 2.3 on my vibrant new or old

  • Bazzeil

    hspa+ is a feature added to tmobile’s 3g towers, anywhere theres 3g, theres 4g.
also, if u want 2.2 on your phone, u have to do it through samsung, tmobile isnt allowing it because its a feature of their “new” phone (new as in its software doesnt limit speed and the camera is installed)
my advice? wait for the new LG coming in april, its 3D, dualcore goodness
