Verizon Wireless-compatible Apple iPad in the works

Verizon Wireless will soon sell a new version of the Apple iPad compatible with its cellular networks, Bloomberg reports. The news comes as another blow to AT&T on Tuesday, following Verizon’s announcement that it would begin selling Apple’s iPhone 4 next month. In an interview with Bloomberg, Verizon Communications Chief Financial Officer Francis Shammo said that an upcoming iPad model would include an embedded chip that will allow it to connect to Verizon Wireless’ data networks. Shammo did not specify if the forthcoming iPad would work on Verizon’s 3G data network or its new 4G LTE network, but previous rumors suggest that the next-generation iPad will include a CDMA radio. Verizon Wireless began selling the Wi-Fi-only iPad this past October, offering the popular iOS tablet bundled with a Verizon MiFi mobile hotspot.

    I have no idea why would one want any tablet with contract anyway! It is such a waste of money if you calculate it for 2 years data plan! 3G for phone makes perfect sense, you are walking down the street and you want something quick while walking, but the tablets aren’t like that! And most coffee places and offices have strong wi-fi connectivity anyway!

      not to mention with the 3g hot spot feature on most phones now if you happen not to be in a wifi area, just hiotspot and go …

      I don’t get the contract on a tablet thing either. If you want faster speeds and flexiblity get an 4G mifi and a wifi ipad….and boom 4G ipad with no tarrif….except for the mifi which can be used for many devices. Some people leave out the common sense just to make a point.

      Seriously man. Its a day in which Apple made the most news and BGR wants site hits because hits = advertising revenue. Apple stories bring in hits ergo the high density of Apple stories on a day in which apple is the news maker.

      Last week Wednesday and Thursday in particular it was nonstop Android news from CES, where you complaining about the repetative nature of those posts?

        The difference is that even in the midst of those announcements, BGR managed to sneak in a few Apple posts… And once VZW announced the invitation to this event today, all news about anything else stopped.
        The Android announcements were about different phones, manufacturers carriers, etc etc…
        But seriously… At least they were super phones, 4.3″+, dual cores, etc etc…
        This is an announcement for a 9 month old phone that was outdated when it came out…LOL

        NEVER BEFORE has 6+ month old tech received such attention. IT’S AN IPHONE, who cares if it’s popular? Tech blogs used to be about cutting edge technology, not stupid trends that our 14 year-old sisters can’t get enough of.

        Where’s the 30+ articles on the AXTRIX? A TRULY revolutionary device that powers a damn laptop for christ sake?! THIS IS THE SAME IPHONE AS BEFORE. God I’m exhausted of this.

    the verizon iphone is out. You have written about it for 4 years and copied every tech article on every site you could find … why not give it a rest and go on to find something else to write about other than verizon and i products.
