Verizon iPhone hands-on! [video]

mobile

We just spent some time with Verizon’s new iPhone 4 and… well, it’s just like the regular iPhone 4. Aside from compatibility with two additional cellular bands, of course, it includes a personal hotspot feature that allows up to five devices to connect to the iPhone via Wi-Fi and share its data connection. It’s pretty intuitive and easy to use, but there’s no status bar icon to indicate that it’s running — and your hotspot name will be the name given to your iPhone during its initial setup, so be careful. And back to that new antenna configuration, Apple confirmed that the top ones are for GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the bottom ones are for cellular connectivity. Everything else is basically the same, and Apple confirmed to us that battery life is identical to the GSM model. Of note, there are no white iPhones here and unlike the photos that leaked a while back, there is no SIM slot. Also, Verizon’s iphone 4 will ship with iOS 4.2.5. Don’t forget to check out the gallery below and hit the jump for a hands-on video preview!

No LTE, No BUY! Why would I want a CDMA iPhone when I have LTE in my area? This is the same crap Apple pulled when releasing the original iPhone with Edge and not 3G.

    • Brett

Plenty of other fan boys will buy it. Their customers encourage the bad behavior by purchasing the products.

maybe because LTE isn’t wide spread yet…o yea its a smart idea to buy a 4G device and not have it work in your region like the idiots who rushed to get the Evo

“This is the same crap Apple pulled when releasing the original iPhone with Edge and not 3G.”

Exactly, and it didn’t stop anyone from buying it. Niether did not having copy+paste, multi tasking, being able to make calls… and on and on.

  • Happyendings

I’m really curious to see if Visual Voicemail is there, and free…. and if it’ll trickle down to other phones as a standard feature.

    • Booboolala2000

I hate visual voice mail. Just use Google Voice or any other app. VZW will never give that away for free.

    No speed test?? Fail BGR…

    • serpentor

Engadget did a some kinda test, but didn’t report results because they said too many factors affecting it. That seems so suspect to me. Like now they’re going to start being journalistic.

You guys understand why this wasnt announced at CES right?

Can you imagine how crappy this so called iPhone 4 would have looked at CES? LOL

    • Brett

You mean companies don’t usually introduce an old product as brand new and state of the art? I am disappointed in CES participants.

i swear the att fanboys are in full swing now lol this is priceless people need to put down thier egos, for more than a hot second.

Big deal, so its a frack’n iphone. Whoop dee doo. Same thing different little network icon. Glaring oversight is lacking LTE radio. Suppose you have to leave something out so you can snag the sheep for the next iteration.

    • Eric

Yeah, I figured they were going to do the same thing. Leave out features that they can get everyone to upgrade to next time.

It means a lot to me because we don’t have ATT 3G in my area but do have Verizon 3G. iPhone 5 will offer 4G for sure but where I live we will not see that for quite some time, so this iPhone 4 on a decent network is what I have been waiting for, now I can ditch my laggy Galaxy S.

  • Rob

WTF Bgr! You guys had hands on and didn’t bother to check for the death grip!

    • http://caspan.com Caspan

No why would BGR actually bad report on their idle Apple!

  • http://twitter.com/mnguyea David Nguyen

Okay…whipppie…its an i*hone on Verizon. Yup, it is same phone (abet minor tweaks), same bloated iTunes, same locked down OS, same egomananic Jobs. Move on.

IF it had been released with a bigger screen (3.8″-4.3″) and some other differences (more openess, LTE, etc…) I would have seriously considered an iPhone4. It’s just too limited compared to what’s coming out this year. They should have done more to make it stand out from the ATT version, IMO.

The next iPhone iteration may be the one. iOS is smooth and fast, but so is Android these days, and it’s innovating faster.

I’m liking the Bionic, except for the RAM. WTF, Verizon – 512mb was the standard last year.

    what apile of shit………GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!

  • Taos

So it’s only 3G not LTE. Then that kinda tells me that come summer time when said iPhone 5 might possibly maybe appear it will be for AT&T and could be 4G HSPA??

  • serpentor

So now that it’s finally here, does BGR have any reason to exist? What are they going to fill the space with without the every-other-day VZ iPhone rumors?

  • n9n3

I’m guessing the revised iPhone antennae pieces seen last week WITH the SIM card slot are for the new GSM iPhone being introduced this summer. I have a feeling that the next update will be akin to the 3G to 3Gs revision- mostly an internal spec bump, i.e. faster processor, more ram, new software features with iOS 5, and of course a revised antennae.

  • Daniel

not a big iPhone or Android fan, but every marketshare has it’s preferred mobile devices right? We have to bear with it… you like iPhone? Good for you… you like Android mobiles? cuddles!…

  • mhammo

Well that was a completely worthless video.

  • Guest

    BFD!

  • Booboolala2000

So, is the antenna fixed or what? Just wanna know. Needs a four inch screen for sure.
