Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play seen running PlayStation emulator on video

Gaming

The gaming-centric Xperia Play, from Sony Ericsson, can’t seem to keep a low profile. In this latest leak, we are privy to a video of the Android device running a PlayStation emulator and showcasing several gaming titles — including Biohazard 2 and Rage Racer. While we don’t find out anything really new about the handset, it is nice to see the Play doing what it was designed to do, game. Hit the jump to check out the aforementioned video.

Probably just the PSX emulator available from the Android Market..
I don’t think Sony would sell the PSX games for the Xperia Play officially.
Still pretty good device for that, because of the PS controller.

Considering how much money Wii has made from selling old games on the VC channel (hell I have over 20 VC titles), Sony would be idiotic to not sell their older PSX and PS2 titles on their newer devices. Why do you think PS3 now has older titles available to download? Because the saw the success Wii garnered from this.

Playstation 2 would sell me. No psp can play ps2 unless its the same game as the ps2 version but specifically for the psp (I.E. Madden for the PSP specifically)

it is the PSX4Droid app. and the original psp could buy psx games no problem in fact, i have street fighter alpha for it.

One post on this so far. Many posts in the Apple threads. And the usual suspects whine about the Apple threads. Looks like there is interest in those.

Still as slow as my old PS. Screen loads were like 2 minutes all the time LOL I would figure these load time would be faster on a Emulator. Seems not, its almost like they are hard coded into the game to give the system time to read the media.

Make Android the OS on the next PSP anyway. Hell, make this exact same thing without the phone. Sold.

They’d be straight NUTS not to sell PSX/P games on this thing… Ain’t that the point?

Sony has seen both sales of it’s phones, the PSP, AND it’s consoles get EATEN UP by the iPhone. Especially here in Japan.
Of course real gamers are hooked on the PSP and PS3– Go to any McDonalds here, and you’ll see people just playing their PSPs for hours because of the free WiFi at every Micky Ds you get with a PlayOnline membership here.

But the real money is in mobile casual gamers. People are playing mobile games on phones all over Japan, and since the iPhone has made it “cool” and feasible to us Yanks, we’re doing it too…

Sony needs the dough and the cred..

This would appeal to PSP fans IF there was a way to port over the games from UMD libraries already purchased for PSP devices.
