RBC: Verizon iPhone to sell 9-10 million units in 2011

mobile

In a note to investors on Monday, RBC Capital Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky stated that Verizon Wireless may sell 9-10 million iPhones in 2011. The figure represents RBC’s preliminary estimates covering the 2011 calendar year. RBC’s projection is up to double the street’s earlier consensus of 5 million units. Abramsky notes that while Apple CEO Steve Jobs may make an appearance at the Verizon Wireless iPhone event scheduled to take place tomorrow, RBC does not anticipate additional product announcements. Previous rumors suggested Apple might also announce an iPad 2 compatible with Verizon Wireless’ data network at the event. Verizon Wireless is expected to announce the CDMA iPhone at a special press event tomorrow, January 11th, and BGR reported exclusively that the device looks set to launch on February 3rd.

whine whine whine. whaa whaa whaa. There are endless posts in here about Adroid, no one complains. This is a tech blog, which includes posts on predictions. Get over it already Droid boys.

      • Johnsonroda27

First off douche nugget I have an iphone and will probably switch to verizon if this is really happening because att is a joke so don’t accuse me of being a Droid boy moron.
secondly the amount of apple related post to apple is insanely lopsided which you refuse to see because your an apple fanboy so suck it turd

      • Bringit

you continue to sound very intelligent. And for the record, I do not have an iphone, although I will likely get a VZW version.

Shouldn’t it be “…because YOU’RE an Apple fanboy…” Being that YOU’RE is the contraction of YOU ARE.

      • Bringit

It’s “you’re” not “your” you dumb ass whiner.

Yeah, its the day of iPhone news…. I mean rumors…
It really is pathetic and Im thinking of not reading BGR anymore and hurting their paychecks by boycotting their advertisers.

Then don’t read it. You will though. You seem to be unable to not only stay away but you can not go without posting either. BGR knows this.

There is no way that just one phone can sell that much. Maybe if Apple released at least 10 phones with iOS and allowed other manufactures to put iOS on then I could maybe see it, but one. Company? No way.

    • Anonymous

Luckily, we don’t have to deal with just one phone to choose from. Choice is a wonderful thing. We aren’t stuck with a tiny screen, or a bunch of square icons. We have cutting edge tech, iphone is always the same.

I just hope Verizon keeps pumping out some of the hotest Android phones like they have been.

How about an LTE iPad2 to go with that Verizon iPhone? Come Androiders, what say you???

    2011 top headline:

“Apple sells more iPhones on Verizon than all Android devices combined.”

    • Joebutler85

It won’t be LTE. New technology scares Jobs that’s why his device releases are so behind the times technology wise. Jobs has already went on record saying the iPhone 5 won’t be a 4G device. I wouldn’t expect their iPad 2 to be any different.

I feel sorry for those being suckered into new contracts with ATT. When I finally convinced my gf to switch to VZW with me there were several more in line at best buy doing the same thing lol. ATT=shady business and crappy network. I use Android but ill wait to see how the iPhone works out on VZW before I ditch the OS.

    • Cellphoneguy313

apple make an awesome device that has a terrible radio in it. the reception is, has been and always will be an apple issue. vzw stopped using its reliable claim in preperation of getting the iphone on their network. I use an android device a wp7 and an iphone on at&t and my iphone is the only one that has service issues.

I wish my job was to spout out seemingly random numbers about what a company was going to do.

  • Anonymous

Lets just hope that having the iphone on att and verizon doesn’t crush sprint or tmobile. Can you imagine how the cell phone landscape would look like if only att, Verizon and a bunch of regional carriers existed? Its a scary thought.

Does the iPhone on BigRed and on the Death Star mean fragmentation with in the iOS line?

    • Donny

Likely not. Apple doesn’t allow carrier bloatware and every iphone world wide gets the same OS updates except the 4 year old first gen models. But that is much better than a 4 month old android device that will nevvr see an update because it has a manufacture and carrier bloat shoved on.

There are advantages to Apples system. No carrier logos on every spare inch and the vanilla OS to do with as you please. And you have to truly modify just like you do with android by rooting (or jailbreaking in iphne speak).

      • Javatheprog

You have a vanilla OS to do with as you please on the iPhone? Ha! Steve doesn’t allow the carriers to modify anything, but he doesn’t let you do any modifying either, other than recently, change wallpapers…ooh, ahh. In android, you can change the whole launcher, down to individual icons, and how the app drawer works, all without rooting and you can truly make it your own. Rooting, opens up a whole new world of possibilities, to be sure, but it is not necessary to do a lot of cool things on Android.

Hope this won’t diminish the resale value of iPhones.

  • Heto493

Unless the iPhone comes enabled for 4G LTE, who cares, there are plenty of Android devices on VZW that are far more powerful than the iPhone 4.

    • Joebutler85

It won’t be. Just another outdated iPhone model

    • Anonymous

And more on the way. I am getting a Thunderbolt to replace my Evo.

  • Donezo

I’m done with this blog. Not because I’m a fanroid or and apple fanboi, rather the fact that that Andrew and the others here clearly have an agenda. As we all know, any time an angenda is involved… you are going to get biased information. I know quite a few people have said they were going to stop visiting BGR. Not that one person leaving matters on a grandscale, I get that. However, I’m sure there are many like myself who are genuineley interested in tech news and the kind of honest blogging this site once promoted. Unfortunetley this site revloves around two things… Apple and Verizon.

One thing I would like to add on that front is that Apple will now be the “cool thing” no one wants to get because everyone including your grandmother will have an iphone. The attraction to Apple has always been that it differeniated (supposedly). This is the begining Apple being percieved as mediocrity and paves the way for an up and comer to put out the next revolutionary device.

See ya a little later Nitz…

Any guesses as to how many more Apple stories BGR will have by the end of day tomorrow??? Grrr

    • Donny

No one is forcing you to read them…let alone comment on them. But that is what fandroids do.

  • Matt

We shall see how awesome Verizons network is once the iphoners show up.

    • Anonymous

      Agree…

    • Bozman

You mean to say “we shall see how awsome the IPhone is on the VZW network”.

    • Eric

A few million Droids seemed to have zero impact on VZW’s network. Just some food for thought.

    • Anonymous

Android phones use more data than iphones. Verizon’s network has had zero problems under that load.

  • Jaburk

Wow, 9-10 million more iphones with reception and proximity sensor problems. More random dialing numbers, muting calls, and hanging up on callers midway thru a call. I loved my iphone 3G but I tried 2 different iphone 4′s and had to return them both due to the proximity sensor issue. It functioned great as an ipod touch but not as a phone.

  • Glenng

I am curious about the plan. Currently, vzw alllows a one year contract on all of its phones. They also charge $2.99 for visual voice mail. It would be interesting to see if the cost of ownership exceeds the Droid’s.

  • Steve78pugs

What kind of pricing structure to expect to see with the vzw i phone

  • Anonymous

they think verizon will sell 9-10 million iPhones, and i think the USA will pay off all of its debt. they have no way coming up with a remotely accurate number that large.

  • StevenGlansburg

    Goodbye android’s popularity…it’s been real.
