Images of MetroPCS’ first LTE, Android smartphone surface; Samsung SCH-R910

Exclusive

A new source has come forward with an image of what we believe to be MetroPCS’ first LTE-capable, Android smartphone — the Samsung SCH-R910. The device, which sports both a CDMA and LTE radio, will run the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system alongside Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. We’re being told that the device will boast a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and 5 megapixel camera — just like the Galaxy S — and will have a user-accessible micro-SD card slot under the battery cover; at this point, memory and on-board storage specs are still unknown. Expect to see the R910 drop on MetroPCS in Q1 with a snazzy new nickname and a contract-free price-point between $329 to $399.

Thanks, S. Mango!

Why do they insist in branding the front of phones (carrier and manufacturer)? It’s ugly.

    iPhone/Nexus One/Nexus S (and others) ftw.

on-board storage are specs are unknown??? “on-board storage specs are unknown”
      (no grammar police)

right i was wondering the same thing, why they have to put the carrier name on the phones or the phone maker???

Anyone know the resolution of the screen?

ChazClout – I guess that’s cause it’s the only way people’ll know who makes the phone other than restarting it to see the boot logo

      3.5″ HVGA display…should be 480×320

Could you pop a Verizon LTE sim card in that for it to work, or does Metro use different frequencies?

    • Anonymous

Different frequencies. Besides, VZW will have better options for an LTE phone.

That may be true, but MetroPCS will be much more affordable and a better value. I may go back to them once my contract runs out with Verizon in 2012. Currently using a Droid X.

    What’s the screen size?

  • MGN87

I have to say….the contract free price on this bad boy, is way candy. I know its a samsung….late updates…ect…but come on….that price for the hardware is just shweeeeet

You can always root and update it yourself.

Works great for me.. Getting on 2.2 is simple and fast.. Download file transfer to memory card, boot phone into Recovery, Flash zip and voila.. Under 5 mins with no way to break your phone and rooting is not necessary

    • Cer

It’s launching with 2.2, which is promising.

  • Anonymous

guess i lost that bet with my friend i guess q2 before they dropped a 4g android phone

  • Phil

for that price you listed, it isn’t worth it

    • Sjhongs

$60/month unlimited everything, no contract no ETF? Worth it IMO this phone is anything like the galaxy S. Anyone know if the screen is SAMOLED?

  • Me

That is not an Android 2.2 phone….the Craft was the first LTE handset, not Android.

They are still light years behind the competition. Where is the multitasking and tethering. And that there are no apps. The units sell sick poor. Show us the numbers MS. KIN died at 6 weeks, should it take 25 weeks this time?
The biggest flop at CES this year was WP7, there was no other than manufacturers who dared to come up with a WP7 unit. Perhaps not so surprising when it took six weeks for Windows KIN to die. KIN 6.0 6.5 7.0 are all dead or dying. Moribund fragmentation, it is called.
