Verizon holding media event January 11th in New York City; iPhone announcement imminent?

What’s this? An invite to a January 11th press event from Verizon Wireless? We’ve confirmed that the above invitation has been sent to multiple new and traditional media outlets. While we have no way of knowing exactly what Verizon has in store, you know what we think it is *cough, Verizon iPhone, cough*. We reported that the Verizon iPhone announcement was imminent earlier this morning, and, if industry pundits and analysts are correct, we were spot on. What do you think? Is Tuesday, January 11th the day when all the speculation can end? Or is this just an oddly — and cruelly – timed press event on 1/11/11 at 11:00AM ET?

    i think this is verizon getting ready to announce their 4G phone plans and update everyone on the revamped upgrade options. the new upgrade status goes into effect the 16th so they’d have to let ppl know…

    i would think jobs would make this a big media thing… and he is such an ego maniac he’d have apple or his name on that invite. i mean isn’t mac world soon and more a venue for him to announce the new iphone for verizon?

      That’s what I’m thinking. I just can’t see Jobs sharing the stage at a Verizon announced event. But what do we all know?

      I love VZ. I have droid x and its a great phone but it has 2 problems with connection. wifi connection and 3g connection. I dont know y im having this issue but if they dont fix it within couple of weeks, I will retrurn it and get the iphone. I used to have the iphone and I never had any issues with wifi connection. att is the main problem.

    My only problem with this is that everyone has gotten themselves in such a frenzy (its really almost insanity) that Verizon HAS to be getting the iPhone and it HAS to be soon. Realize that everyone has been saying this for the last 2 years. “Verizon WILL be getting the iPhone on (insert random date) because we talked to someone who is close to apple”. The reason it seems that there is so much “news” about the Verizon iPhone is because every little thing Verizon or Apple does peoples knee jerk reaction is “ZOMG! ITS THE VERIZON IPHONE!” Ask yourselves this though, has any of the predictions since the iPhone launched been correct in relation to Verizon? No. I remember last year that there was a huge story about how they were ordering 1 million CDMA iPhone and that meant it HAD to be for Verizon. Nope, went to china. This announcement is more likely how they are going to structure their 4G plans. So far we have heard nothing about 4G phone data or how any of the plans would work. I think it would make sense to use CES to show off all the bright shiny new phones and after a week or so of drooling over them hit you with how much it will cost. Theres just a little too much speculation with tis. Then again I could be wrong…

    The lines they are a comin’! These lines will be filled with a lot of people. A lot of those lots of people will be Android users (not the hardcore Amiga type Android users) who got an Android device and realized that it isn’t an the “MeToo” product they thought it would be.

    The thing that will be different about the iPhone for Verizon and Android devices for Verizon is that there will be hundreds of thousands (if not a million or more) sold on the first day (even if that first day is pre sales).

    Three months ago I informed the entire internet that Android had indeed peaked, this launch will seal that statement. Android’s rise is over, it is flat growth from here on out.

    People , you have to think about it. If it is just a CDMA Iphone 4 , you might as well wait for June. Apple launches a new model every year. Given the fact that Verizon will no longer allowed early updates (from the 13th month) on their 24 months contract, you might as well wait a few months so you don’t end up with an iPhone 4 for 20 months. What do you guys think?

    My thought is that Verizon will not announce an iPhone on Tues. with a launch date at the end of the month. If they do announce on Tuesday (which I doubt), look for it to be available that Thursday or Friday. With iPhone anticipation at its highest, Verizon will not sacrifice smartphone sales by announcing and then having a large portion of potential smartphone consumers waiting for iPhone. Trust me, when it comes it will come quickly. On the other hand, I believe the announcement will have everything to do with revised data pricing related to 4G, and the launch date of the Thunderbolt 4G.

      Besides, If there is any new Apple product hitting the market, Steve Jobs will make the announcement on his terms, not Verizon’s.

    Quota’s aren’t high enough for a Jan launch. But Feb is anyone’s guess. Tuesday should be interesting, glad I’m off!

    it’s interesting that all the VERIZON fanboys who have said that the iPhone sucks – an dow much better ANDRIOD is… are now drooling over a VZ iPhone annoucement. Can’t wait for VZ to get the iPhone and you all can finally see that issues are with the device…

    I have had it confirmed to me this morning by a VZW manager that is my friend, that the Iphone is being announced tomorrow, not that I even give a crap…i want my droid bionic…but it will be here.
