Best Buy dropping price of Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab to $299 on-contract, $499 off

Exclusive

Fresh intel indicates that Best Buy will be dropping the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, U.S. wireless provider Sprint, to just $299 with a new two-year contract — the device will retail for $499 when activated with a month-to-month contract and $549 with no contract at all. The above image, which comes to us courtesy of a Best Buy source, all but confirms this. No word on if this pricing is exclusive to Best Buy or if it will also be mirrored by Sprint. Recent rumors indicate that Verizon Wireless will also be dropping the price of the Galaxy Tab to $499 contract-free. What do you think? Is the tablet any more attractive at $299 or $499?

Until this puppy goes WIFI only to about $350 I’m not buying. Too much competition out there. It’s a great product, but I have a Sprint unlimited and I’m not paying any more cash for data and there are tablets just as nice as this, or coming out soon, cheaper.

Agreed, just make them WIFI and the ability to tether witlessly to you phone…I know of no one that wants to pay an additional mandatory data package charge if they already have a smart phone. This gouging for data charges has to stop. Fortunately my smart phone is grandfathered and I pay no mandatory data charges and I wont purchase another phone unsubsidized OR subsidized until that mandatory charge is removed OR if the carriers again make the accept ion for Unsubsidized purchases again.

Wifi at $300 would be a good price.

Bargain bins rejoice, we have another product coming your way. Reminds me of all the pink and black Christmas decorations sold at 90% on December 26th.

With the new announcements at CES it had better be prepared for a $99.00 price tag, otherwise they will rot on the display shelf. No WiFi? Some engineer or marketing genius was asleep at the wheel!

It has wifi. Who’s the genius now?

If Wifi is about $300, I’ll buy it. if not, I’ll probably wait for Dell Streak 7 or Motorola Zoom.

    $60 for 5GB of 3G on a 2 year??? Is that a joke? I’ll stick with Verizon 4G at 5GB for $50.

Honestly, with everything announced this week, including the Galaxy Tab follow-up, the price should definitely in the $350 area off-contract.

Samsung and Motorola need to get a clue. Only 25% of customers want a tablet with a data plan. Everyone else wants WiFi only. Get a clue.

I think after all of yesterday’s announcements at CES the Galaxy Tab has become so unattractive as to need a steeper price drop. If I was Samsung I’d be a little ashamed of even bothering to trot out a “new” Galaxy Tab with a minor processor speed bump.

I think the big thing here is that Google needs to come right out and explain the Android strategy. How will Android 2.x and 3.x coexist, etc. I have many more questions there than with regard to the new also ran known as the Galaxy Tab.

The Galaxy Tab at my local AT&T store, as of last night, was listed as $649/no contract. Yikes!! Think I’ll just stick with my iPad, thank you very much. WiFi only and a 10″ screen.

An equivalent iPad is $629. Gotta compare apples to apples.

Quit tying the tablet to a 3G contract! Most people buying this tab already have high speed home internet and most likely a smartphone with 3G. There’s no need for a third internet bill. They can lower the price if they simply make a Galaxy tab that doesn’t include a 3G radio like the iPad WiFi only version.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy-S from Walmart online in October. I paid 49.99 for it with an at&t contract renewal. If I were going to spend over 100.00 I would’ve gotten an iphone! As far as my phone goes though it’s alright. I am not too fond of the battery life though.

  • Lrh

Well not really, I don’t want it with a contract and $549.00 is still a little too much for me.

they could grab a large market share if they dropped the wifi-only model from $350 (as of 5/24/11) to $150-200 for a very-limited time.
