Seattle Times: Sprint and Verzion to carry Windows Phone 7 devices by June 30

mobile

According to a report filed by the Seattle Times, Microsoft’s director of mobile communications, Aaron Woodman, was quoted as saying that both Sprint and Verizon Wireless would carry Windows Phone 7 devices by June 30th of this year. The timeline — roughly five and a half months from now — offers plenty of wiggle room, but we have to assume that both CDMA carriers will be releasing a WP7 set long before then; especially since we’ve already seen the HTC 7 Pro. Anyone out there waiting for a Windows Phone 7 set on Sprint or Verizon?

The TP2 keyboard still looks a little better. I just wish they had put it in the Desire Z.

Breaking News: Sometime after today Verizon Wireless will sell at least one mobile device that is currently not available, according to sources familiar with the matter. I will keep you posted once more details are given in this ground breaking development.

I was interested in WP7 back in August when I was still on my Blackberry, but when I heard there wouldn’t be a CDMA variant until the following year I bought my EVO and I’m not looking back. I could give a shit if it ever shows up.

That is quite a long time to wait. I mean, do I really have to use my stupid Instinct phone for five more months, oh well, I guess I will be waiting.

Is Verzion a new wireless carrier?

I recently aquired a Droid X so I can wait but for people who haven’t upgraded in years that’s rough esp with the freakiing Bionic roaming Verizon shelves. MS better show some good hardware and fast.

Can’t wait to see Google replace Bing on one of these devices!!! lol. End of June is way too late. iPhone a Dual Core Androids will be tearing up sales. Sorry Microsoft. Looks like no traction for you until 2012. And thats a big????

You want Google, buy Android dude. This is a Microsoft product.

      • Booboolala2000

That was a rib at Microsoft, because they have a contract with VZW to put bing instead of Google search on lesser Android phones.

The thing about WP7 is that it doesn’t need to have the dual core chips or insane amounts of RAM in them. It was designed for specific hardware requirements and from what I have read it runs buttery smooth on its current hardware. I’m sure WP7 would benefit greatly from dual core chips but just because Android devices are getting them doesn’t make WP7 outdated, its built for the hardware it runs on.

Apple lost that argument about software optimisation vs hardware acceleration back in the late 90′s. Customers see hardware specs and they think bigger is better. That’s a fact.

no. No one will care about windows 7 by june 2011.

If Verizon does a windows phone by then it’ll be another kin.

Windows 7 will never be a big deal,,if they released it before android exploded then they would have at least had a shot….

  • i have an iphone on verizon

if it had a 4 in screen heck yeah! but 3.6.. really htc are you really that scared of a 4 inch screen and a keyboard on a phone?

I’m waiting on Sprint, but not until June 30!

I would love to get a Samsung Focus on Sprint, it seems to have all of the specs that I would need. Still also holding out hope for the Feb. 9 Palm announcement as I’m still using my launch day Pre.

I think I finally figured out the lack of a CDMA iPhone and CDMA Windows 7 Phones.

They don’t want to limit their phones with Verizon’s CDMA network. Consumer’s lack of understanding of CDMA networks vs GMS networks could have created the wrong impressions about the phones. Phones that can not surf the web and talk at the same time are limited.

Verizon’s CDMA network currently can not send data and voice at the same time. ONLY AT&T’s GSM networks can do this at the moment. This is not a big deal for most people hense the huge increase in Android phones. But to Mircosoft and Appe this is a huge problem. They don’t want any negative reviews about the Phones. The future is voice and data at the same time.

Microsoft must have all the first impressions of their new phone to be very very good and so limiting the phones with Verizons network is not good. (no news is better then bad news) It is easy to see most consumers blaming the phones for a lack of ability and not the network they are using.

This is changing in June when Verizon upgrades their CDMA networks. They should by then be able to send data and Voice like AT&T. Microsoft & Apple have not called Verizon out on this because they want them to sell their phones. Apple is trying to beat Microsoft to the party. They are also trying to stop the bleeding from the Android phones.

    wow!

Yes! I keep asking Sprint and nobody can tell me when they will carry it. I have been looking at AT&T and will probably switch because Sprint is just taking too long.
