Mac App Store serves over 1 million downloads in first day

Software

Amidst some controversy, Apple announced Friday that its newly launched Mac App Store topped 1 million downloads on opening day. Apple launched the Mac App Store on Thursday as a central location for developers to distribute OS X software. The idea mimics the company’s iOS App Store, of course, which is responsible for the current mobile app explosion among smartphone platforms. The Mac App Store launched with over 1,000 free and paid software titles, and in many cases paid apps were available at deep discounts. “We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. “Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.” Hit the break for the full press release from Apple.

And out of these 1 million downloaded apps, 85% or more of them will proabably be deleted/never used again within a few weeks.

    Next.

Not true, do you have a Mac? Why do you trolls come on here and comment negative shit, seriously…I really wish websites would ban ISP addresses of people like you. You make idiotic comments…if someone wants to buy a product than let them. All these things are giving
consumers better products. Who are you to judge, go back to your mom’s basement troll.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Since when was browsing and installing apps fun?

Mac App store is a major step backwards. The trend over the last few years was to move to a cloud computing with service delivery done over the Internet. All you need is a browser – the site you go to will do everything else for you.

Introduction of 1,000s of apps is akin of going back to the early 80s when there was “an app for it”. This is a backward development and I don’t understand why it attracts any attention (I suppose I do, though, because it is Apple). Things like air tickets, angry birds and others can be served in a web format without loss of usefulness or features. Except, you don’t need an app for that, all you need is a browser.

    Silly, silly, silly people….

Well why don’t you just shop at the stupid chrome webstore for your silly, silly cloud apps! =D

Funny. I use Chrome as my browser on my Macbook Pro and have about twenty Chrome Web Apps. I also have a fefew apps from the Mac App Store. I like them both. One changes the way I use my browser and the other makes it easier to find programs and apps to use when I don’t need to be online. Relax people.

Thanks for the stupid rant. You could have just said I prefer to Googles services over anything Apple. Instead you just showed off your severe and unprovoked hate of Apple. Thanks for that.

Only a million? Enable the remote cattle-prod!!! <~~~~Steve Jobs

Of these one million downloads 800,000 was probably for “Angry Birds”. I don’t get what all the fuss is about with that game by the way.
