Apple’s Verizon iPhone plans: Our predictions

Opinions

Earlier today, we posted information that led us to believe Apple’s iPhone for Verizon Wireless will go on sale starting February 3rd. The dates all line up with previous reports of Apple vacation blackouts in addition to Apple keeping on the extra Holiday staffers for its stores until further notice. Our independent sources confirmed that in multiple regions, Apple employees are not able to take vacations from February 3rd to February 6th. If those dates hold true, and turn out to be the dates the Verizon iPhone goes on sale, Apple will have to announce the device fairly quickly. While Verizon is one carrier that Apple could trust to keep a product secret (if there is such a thing), there is still no way the company would let the stock piles of Verizon iPhones move before an announcement.

We are just under four weeks away from our predicted launch date, and since this is a product that requires a cell service agreement, Apple and Verizon will most likely want to give potential (and excited) customers as much time as possible to check when their contracts expire, and get their ducks in a row so they can be educated and ready to purchase the Verizon iPhone on launch day. It’s also entirely possible for this event to be based around the upcoming iPad 2 which is rumored to have built-in CDMA and Verizon Wireless support.

We’re predicting that Apple will send out media invites for its Verizon iPhone press event within the next week.

There is one more thing… the anticipated Verizon iPhone launch dates occur during Superbowl weekend. Is it possible we’ll see a huge ad blitz from Apple and Verizon promoting the brand new iPhone during the Super Bowl — maybe even reminiscent of Apple’s 1984 ad? We shall see soon enough!

I predict hundreds of FanDROIDS heads will simultaneously explode.

All these seemingly DAILY posts of the same regurgitated “Maybe this maybe that”..”We suspect..” yadda yadda…is REALLY getting old. How about an announcement for a IPhone 5…a White IPhone anything else of thte sort why not a speculation of that…would really be refreshing.

    • Anonymous

Ha, a white iPhone. People forgot about that, and it does line up with some earlier reports that a white iPhone might drop early this year. Wouldn’t it be funny if all of this speculation was exactly that?

While I do agree that two articles that are pretty much about the same thing is a bit too much, I did think of some thing good to come of this, at least for AT&T customers. If VZW “does” get the iPhone and they give it unlimited data for $30 a month, I can only hope that will push AT&T to change their minds and offer unlimited data again.

      food for thought:)

CES 2011 is happening right now and BGR has written more about Apple products than anything else.. the sadness.. lol

    • Bringit

Why is it NO ONE complains with the recent endless posts in here on the multiple Android phones announced at CES – but anytime Apple gets ink, people whine. Get over it.

      • Len

I’m in no way an Android supporter but I take exception to your comment. There is a big difference from something being announced, and making rumours and predictions about something that MAY come true. It because even more ridiculous when you have 3 posts regarding the same rumour…

      • Anonymous

Except, there is little Apple news to report that is substantive. No one in their right mind thought that the Verizon iPhone would be announced at CES. Neither will it be at MWC. So BGR is link baiting right now with several posts about the iPhone. However, multiple Android phones WERE announced at CES, thereby making it newsworthy.

      • Donny

Its because FanDROIDS are 17 and under as well as have severe adhd.

BGR is desperate for website hits because Engadget is taking over. Nice try.

There are a lot of haters on here talking trash to TRY and sound cool and educated but when it comes right down to it, regardless of all the new killer android devices coming out, most users are going to buy this VZW iPhone. Myself included who is a current DROID user. I had the chance to get an iPhone a year and a half ago and switch carriers but I chose to give android a legitimate chance and I’m glad I did. When it comes right down to it though, the Apple OS is still far more polished and stable.

And yes, as I type this on my 24″ iMac.

Don’t bag on BGR for posting info. i remember all the haters doing the same thing when he first started the DROID rumors back in the day and guess what… he was dead on and it made a lot of people on here look really stupid, just like this rumor (pretty much fact) is going to do. Keep up the great work BGR. A loyal reader.

Refreshing to find someone else in my camp. Want to love Android, have tried every device ever made, latest versions etc and what? Back to the iPhone. Why? Bluetooth dialing, easily-accessible voice dialing and email. That’s it. Android email is really, really horrible and unusable. I’d like to see a stat about former blackberry users switching to Android. My guess is most move back to BB. iPhone had a similarly poor email client prior to 3.0, now it may be better than RIM. I don’t really see the hate for the iPhone. It is a very good device, albeit an often terrible phone.

      • Camojasen

Thanks Pickens. I also didn’t add that my DROID 1 is also overclocked with BB rom and the thing FLYS…. but it still isn’t the iPhone. I’m sure you get that.

I have had a Droid too buggy sometimes couldn’t answer the phone, Bring on the Iphone Verizon.

I like your observation of the 1984 ad campaign. I wonder if there’s a schedule out there yet for commercials during the superbowl.

  • 9th BlackBerry and Counting

I’m about to had some fuel to this fire. Peep this, Pre-half time ad is for the “(fictional) Verizon-I phone” or Ipad2 suddenly it’s the half time show featuring the Black Eyed Peas and then followed by an ad for the upcoming play book or “(fictional) Storm 3″…that would seriously steal some thunder….huh….huh?!?!?

2 verizon iphone rumor posts in one day? And yet tot one has anything substantively useful in it…

It was better when all you did was copy posts from engaget rather than invent fake news.

  • Booboolala2000

Funny, I’m sticking with Android. I like seeing all the AT&T fans getting all upset. I may get this for my parents though. They are a bit tech challenged. I hope this helps light a fire under motorolas ass in unlocking their bootloaders.

  • Dsfarag

Awesome!!!! Now all the customers on AT&T will move to Verizon and the AT&T network will become so much more roomy. Go ahead, folks, run away from home because big red is waiting for you. I will stay on AT&T. I enjoy my rollover minutes, and early upgrades provided you have 18 months or less in your respective contract.

    I’m too drunk to care.

argggg….the fantasizing keeps coming in. None of this add’s up. Apple has yet to even send out a press invite about anything.

This would be totally opposite as to what Apple normally does. Not buying into this.

  • Wpb4thewin

Isn’t the headline:” apples verizon iPhone plans: our predictions”

  • Anonymous

I just hope the new Verizon iPhone is powered by Android.

  • Anonymous

more icrap. what happened to the 5 year contract? hell, crApple should just buy ATT lol.

  • Rock

Why doesn’t Apple just open this phone up to ALL networks??? Put a LTE/HSDPA/WiMAX Chip in there and sell it openly to anyone. It’d dominate the market, and everyone would want it. This exclusivity thing is just frustrating, and honestly makes Apple look like a bunch of bullies.

  • Jeohn

but you idiots never bothered checking to see if verizon was hiring more employees. ATT has 15 sales people per store on average and verizon has 4-6…… its a verizon iPAD not a verizon iPhone, remember that exclusive contract that att has until 2012 and wall street journal has said since the 2g iphone that verizone is getting the iphone. CDMA is a dying technology so why in the hell would iphone shoot themselves in the foot. keep dreaming, not to mention CDMA caps at 1mbps. that is some slow shit

    • Patty

I wonder why AT&T runs such inefficient stores where they need 4 *TIMES* as many employees at every location, just to handle all the complants and problems. Verizon lets you do countless things online, instead… without every going into any store and waiting in long lines.
