Mac App Store cracked? Tutorial surfaces

Software

There’s a tutorial on how to download and install cracked apps from the newly-launched Mac App Store floating around, and while we’re not encouraging pirating applications and cracked apps, we’re sure Apple will patch this pretty soon and it’s worth reporting on. If you download a free app from the Mac App Store, like the Twitter for Mac app, and then go to Package Contents and to the Contents folder of the app, you can copy the code signature and a couple other files and then paste those files into a non-purchased downloaded app. That will trick the non-purchased app into thinking you purchased it, and it will run without issue. We’re linking the site because again, we think it’s worth reporting, but we don’t encourage pirating apps — just pay the developers and support them so we can continue receiving great quality iOS and Mac apps, alright?

But how do you download apps without paying for them?? Unless someone else who purchases them sends you the file??

Is there a way to download a paid app from another avenue besides the mac app store?

Its like a Jailbreak for Mac OS

As others have pointed out, Apple could confirm through its validation process that the apps are taking the appropriate piracy-avoiding steps. However, if Apple were to remove apps because they’re non-compliant, bloggers will complain that Apple is too strict. If they allow things to consider this way, the same developers who didn’t properly code their apps will complain about the absence of controls.

So maybe for once, Apple should implement some security on their devices so they don’t have to run into these dilemmas. I can’t believe I just said Apple and security in the same sentence, twice. They’re oxymorons.

      • Anonymous

That might be an oxymoron but you are a moron

Thank you for your contribution, much value added.

We get that you’re totally clueless, Len. No need to keep underlining that fact.

This only works for apps that haven’t properly implemented Apple’s receipt checking or whatever it’s called as report on a few other sites. I true crack would be needed to circumvent that and something to that effect has been announced too. App cracking is nothing new and inevitable.

Inevitable? Hmmm maybe, but on the first day? That’s pretty sad. Having said that, let’s look at a company that actually values security, RIM. Have their devices/apps/etc. been hacked/cracked yet?

      • Anonymous

No, they just sold their stuff to all the governments of the world.

      • dwinsmith

I’ll repeat again that the App store has not been compromised. The problem is improper application or no implementation of receipt checking by developers. Funny you should mention RIM because their Apps are not immune.

Does Blackberry App World even have any apps worth cracking?

i’ll tell you what. After reading several reviews saying it crashes and doesnt work i started to think maybe it wont run on mine since my mac is a bit old. Bought back in beginning of 07. So i said why not ill try it and it worked fine on my computer so now ill go ahead and purchase. Why not have trials?

More great quality fart apps? No thank you, if people are smart enough to do this let them do it.

why would someone try to steal apps from the store? These developers are either working normal jobs and pushing 60-80 hours a week trying, or they are depending on those awesome apps for money….It makes me sick that people are so fucked up that they would steal apps. Imagine going to work for 8 hours one day and the boss comes to your office and tells you that your not getting paid for the 8 hours

I actually love that apple is attracting a user base of people that are willing/have the ability to do this stuff. I think it is good for apple in the long run to not just market their tech to technophobes or luddites.
95% of users will still take the honest route, but don’t shun that 5% that will help you improve leaps and bounds.

    Wow that was quick…and horrible!

Yeah… App Store are cracked by Kickback software. The software will be avalable at feburary.

  • Anonymous

That seems… oddly easy. Just copying and pasting some files.

Once they figured out copy/paste on iOS, they took it to the limits!

    hahaha….pirating? Who does that!
