Dell Venue unveiled; Android 2.2, 8-megapixel camera, AMOLED display

CES

Following the announcement of Dell’s HSPA+ 4G-enabled Streak 7 tablet, the Texas-based company has just unveiled its latest Android handset — the Dell Venue. Distant cousin to the Windows Phone 7-powered Venue Pro, Dell’s new Venue smartphone runs version 2.2 of the Android OS. Additional styling cues come courtesy of Dell’s own UI overlay known as “Dell Stage,” and beyond the OS we’re looking at a 1GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, full Flash 10.1 support, Dell Stage widget support, a curved body and a 4.1-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen display. Details surrounding pricing and a launch date haven’t yet been revealed, but Dell promised to provide more information in the coming weeks.

Didn’t think you could have an Android phone with three buttons on the front of it. What’s Dell’s beef with the dedicated search button?

Hell, what’s compelling about this phone in comparison to all of the other Android touchscreen goodness coming out?

Dell sucks at this game. When the Venue first leaked almost a year ago (8-10months or so), I was in awe about the beautiful hardware, 4.1 in. was the perfect balance between beauty and functionality. However by the time they announce it, it doesn’t feel as awesome anymore. Samsung came out with the Galaxy S ..and especially the Captivate which is the sexiest looking phone I’ve seen. By the time it launches, the Venue will be DOA. They need to fully to commit to Android if they want to be in this game, not these half -assed launches.
