T-Mobile’s Motorola CLIQ 2 gets official

CES

It won’t come as much of a surprise thanks to a series of leaks, but Motorola and T-Mobile have just made Moto’s CLIQ sequel official. The Motorola CLIQ 2, as it’s aptly named, is a QWERTY slider built for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G network. It features a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, a 1GHz processor, DLNA support, and Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI over the Android 2.2 Froyo OS. We know, we know — it’s tough to get excited about a Froyo phone now that Gingerbread and Honeycomb have been unleashed, but expect the CLIQ 2 to be a solid affordable option when it launches later this month. The Motorola CLIQ2 will become available on January 19th online and in T-Mobile stores. Pricing has not yet been disclosed. Hit the break for Motorola’s full press release.

I had the Cliq back on tmobile for a couple months back I needed something cheap on craigslist. It was a pretty terrible phone. This will never get updated and motoblur motosucks.

  • lurch

That keyboard looks like a hot mess.

Build upon the success of the original cliq?????

You surely must be kidding me. I have an original cliq. My recollection was that the phone sold very poorly and because of poor sales and blur it took forever for motorola to update it off of android 1.5. The Phone lagged terrible and mostly because of the buggy BLUR crap that motorola has just got to impose on top of android.

So now instead of a 528mhz processor that was crippled with blur in cliq one, I would get a 1ghz phone crippled with blur in cliq 2. I am also trying to wrap my head around this being touted as a business phone. My 12 year old and 16 year old loved the cliq one’s constant annoying social app notifications in blur, but I wouldn’t consider the layout of functionality or business like.

      Typical dumb@$$ reply…

I swear BigRed has the most self righteous customers on the known planet…

Everyone HATES moto other than when it’s on BigRed. It makes no sense. How can EVERY Other carrier have the same “crappy” Motorola devices, then they get a “droid” name and instantly they are AMAZING!!!!…..

shallow minded blind people, that how.

They’re alreading lining up for this beauty…….not.

What a TERRIBLE waste of keyboard real estate. Epic fail on this one.

This phone would of been perfect if it didn’t have that fail of a UI Motoblur. Motorola really needs to get rid of it, its nothing but bloatware. And also, if this phone supports HSPA+ why doesn’t it have an “H” icon on the signal status bar. One thing they did right was at least put in a 1 GHZ processor on this phone.

If I’m reading the press release correctly, it’s not strictly a 4G device. What they seem to be saying is that it will benefit from a speed increase like the rest of T-Mobiles phones do, just by virtue of the fact that HSPA+ is backwards compatible. So while it should be plenty fast, it wont be as fast on DL speeds as say a G2 or MT4G would be. Bit of creative marketing from Motorola.

That’s because HSPA+, what T-Mobile is calling 4G, is still technically 3G services. My MyTouchHD is a HSAP+ Devices and it shows 3G, and H. If Motorola programed this correct it will have 3G where a HSPA connection is established and a “H” icon where HSAP+ connections are established.

What’s with the turtle shell like keyboard? Hate to say it, but some Motorola products look like they were designed by the same senseless goons who design interiors for American cars, i.e. GM, Ford, Chrysler.

    • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

I was wondering if anyone else thought the keyboard was hideous.

    • Hate, Y U No Love?

The interior to my Benz C230 sucks a d!ck. Fake leather, cheapie looking ‘chrome’ accents, the armrest compartment was designed with zero practical usage, rear seats that DON’T fold down and the cover to the vanity mirror just fell off one day.

I’ve rented quite a few cars in my time (most of those American), and previously owned Japanese cars prior to the Benz.

You know not what you speak of.

      • http://twitter.com/endlessct9a John C.

You drive a C230, the cheapest MBZ available. What I call the Mercedes Accord. You’re basing your opinion based on a car you bought cuz you wanted a Merc but couldn’t afford a real Merc? So despite your bad taste in cars, YOU are telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about? Comedy.

Haters, relax… the only mistake that Motorola made was calling it CLIQ 2. This device has the same specs as the Droid 2 and Millstone 2. It uses an OMAP3630, the same exact processor that is in the DroidX. I’ve used it, and the keyboard is excellent and very, very functional. Better than the Droid 2, IMO. Do not make the mistake of comparing this to the original CLIQ. Check the benchmarks on the Droid 2 if you want to know how this device will perform.

My impression is that the only mistake Motorola made was corrupting android with Blur. Seriously, if moto likes that so much, why the pretense of an open os like android, why not just have BLUR as their house OS.

I am not mistaking comparing this to the original cliq, i am comparing moto’s behavior related to releasing phones with already outdated os’s and then taking forever to update them because they loaded the phone up with proprietary bloatware.

Froyo still is a luxury to me as I am a Milestone user condemned to 2.1 for the moment… and maybe forever.
